The PLX gauge and sensors are great but very expen$ive and a hassle to fit Once they're installed you get immense satisfaction and won't think "Maybe I should have installed XYZ instead?".

I personally prefer to have an analog boost gauge front and centre (ie. where the OEM dummy oil pressure gauge sits) so the DM-100 multi-gauge was ideal for me sitting in the dummy OEM water temperature gauge location where it displays AFR, Oil Temp+pressure and water temperature. For symmetry/balance, I may install another DM-100 in the OEM fuel gauge location one day.

If you want to preserve your glovebox when you install the PLX sensor modules, consider installing them on a "plate" under the passenger seat.

Also, consider spraying the HVAC fascia with black vinyl dye to blend in with your new stereo, the silver plastic looks out of place and cheap now IMO.

I agree about the HVAC, I've been searching for a different version but as yet haven't managed to find one. The only reason I haven't already covered it was that I thought it may be a little too much carbon fibre look.

As far as the HU and the app goes it does work just not quite as seemless as I'd like. I also can't find a gauge display that I really like for it from dash command.

If you bought an Android powered head-unit, you could use a Bluetooth OBDII adapter and the Torque app to see OBDII data.

So time for an update!

At present the car is off the road after a small mishap.
Coming out of turn 5 at Phillip island went to put power in, had none, happened to look in the rear view, arghhh the biggest cloud of white smoke I've ever seen. Oh sh!t I've done the turbo was my 1st thought. Managed to get the car back to the pits and fortunately some of the guys from the Vic mx5 club were able to have a quick look. From that we deduced that it was only the oil seal that had let go, phew! Was a really good day as well so a bit of a let down but we managed to get the car home under its own power, just couldn't go into boost.

Well given that the car was now going to be off the road while I fixed the turbo it seemed like a good chance to get all of the Plx sensors and dm-100 gauge that I have fitted. I've got the afr sensor and boost sensor and will soon get oil pressure.

I've taken Lokiels lead a little with this install as when it comes to wiring and so on I'm hopeless. So far I've got the dm-100 installed in the factory water temp spot as I'll be able to get that from the obd2 function anyway. I think that I'll follow lokeil's advice and mount the sensor modules under the passenger seat. I thinking that I'll get a piece of sheet metal to mount them to then mount that to the rear bolts of the passenger seat so that its secure. It's a slow process though as I muddle my way through.


I've also given a great deal of thought to upgrading the turbo, I even approached nitro Dann about doing the fabrication. While his quote was better than I expected I just couldn't quite stretch the budget that far at the moment. So I've source a new standard turbo from the states which has now arrived. I had thought off just having the oil seal replaced but from the couple of quotes that I had it has worked out better to get a new turbo. So now I'll have a spare.

I've also magically had a beautiful (although currently white) hardtop come into my possession. Thanks Dad! I'm also babysitting a nice little turbo na6 for a bit, again thanks dad

During the turbo removal, was a slow process, fitting it in between work, babysitting a general family duties.

Getting the new turbo in.

So finally got it all back together and it runs great. This was the biggest thing I'd tried doing on my own so the first start was a bit nerve wracking. I'd love to say that it was perfect 1st go but unfortunately there was a leak from the exhaust manifold so had to pull that apart again to fix.

I also got my new Plx dm100 gauge installed in place of the factory water temp which is working great. Just need to sort the excess of cables out now along with putting in the Plx boost and afr sensors. Photos to come soon.

I've now got the striker plates for the hardtop so just have to drill the holes.

In other words lots still to do but I'm getting there.
Ah one other thing to go in is a new seat

Nice and cheap off eBay and seems really comfy.

Have finally gotten the hard top on.

Not sure if I want to keep it white or maybe plastidip it black or paint it velocity red???

Has been a while since I've updated the garage, so here we go.
Recently I put it out there that I was interested in selling my PSS9'S. We'll thanks to Wun we did a trade, my PSS9'S for his Tein flex. They were both about the same age and simlar value.
I had been a little disappointed with the bilsteins as far as a performance coilovers goes. For comfort they were great though.
The best thing is that we were both really happy with the outcome, the Teins have really transformed the car in my opinion.
The next thing on the list was a style bar. I would've like to go straight to a roll bar but as the wife still has a bit of a say in the car decided to start with this and see how we go. Fortunately one came up for sale here in melbourne, so I jumped at it. Again I'm really happy with the outcome. Wasn't to hard to install although it did mean cutting the seat belt tower plastic, oh well!


One of the best modz I've done to date would have to be getting in on the Miata roadster ssk group buy.
Mine arrived before Xmas and I got the job done in about an hour. Was actually very easy and the result is just amazing. I would definitely recommend this to anyone with the standard shifter.



I've managed to pick up a few good bits off other forumites, this would be one of the best buys so far, thanks alexpav.

I also still need to fit the diffusers from the group buy. So definitely have my work cut out for me.
During this time I've also changed from iphone to android so my original wifi adapter no longer worked so I've know gotten the bluetooth adapter so now I've got torque up and running on my phone which is great and will be even better once I've got the imfd hooked up so that I'll get boost, afr and oil pressure all up on the stereo.
So all in all the cars coming along and I've pretty much got it to where I want it. I still absolutely love driving it and look forward to every opportunity that I get to.
