Nice! I wish mine looked like that at the moment (it is headless). Out of interest do you know the head flow figures (yes I am asking this question a lot)?

Hi Magpie,

I will try and answer this since I did this cylinder head. (hope thats OK John)

At the moment my flow bench is only set up for comparison purposes. I can tell if the flow has increased, and it is also set up with pitot tubes to probe air speed around the port for comparson air speed over a std cylinder head. It doesn't give a "flow figure" as such, nor an "air speed figure" without alot of paperwork and formulas applied to the readings. It can be done, but not viable for a job such as this one.

This is the flow bench I use for this type of cylinder head.

After doing a number of cylinder heads you get to learn what needs to happen to get a result. In most instances after I have done one type of cylinder head I don't reuse the flow bench unless I am doing more developement work on that particular head.

For the more serious stuff where budget is no barrier or I wish to get a bit more serious with a particular cylinder head I use a flow bench in Sydney which does plot exact figures for both flow and air speed very accurately and gives a nice print out etc etc.

At the end of the day a flow bench is alot like a Dyno, they vary. As do the methods of measuring and accuracy of the operator. Depending on the operator and who is doing the developement work also makes a huge difference to the end result. For instance if a head can be made flow 10 more cfm at full lift, but it's at the expense of flow at low and midrange lift, or results in a massive drop in air speed it's not neccessarily the right thing to do.

Bottom line, don't get hung up on flow figures as alot of them are bullshit like dyno figures.

If anyone would like some flow figures off a cylinder head the same as this one I am happy to send a cylinder head to the guy that owns the bench I use in Sydney and will gladly post them on this forum, as I can duplicate John's head at any stage.

Cheers,
Warren

Warren thanks for the detailed explanation! Now I have to digest it. John I can't wait for your build to be finished.

ITB Build Part 14 - http://omgpham.com/itb-build-part-14

Dropped my engine off last week at the Auto Xperts, they did an excellent job and degreed my cams to the recommend specs. Final adjustments will be made on the dyno.

Picked her up this morning and have been on it since than.
