[NC] Weird scrape marks on disc

Postby gobsmax » Fri Jul 19, 2013 2:21 pm

Hey all,

So I had these, 19x8 ET45 running 215/35
Image

Then I put these on, 16x8 ET42 running 225/55
Image

And it caused this, but only on the rears
Image

But I can't see any clearance issue
Image

Nor are there any scrape/scratch marks on the inside of the rim
Image

So now she sits like this... EDIT and there are NOT any scraping/scrubbing issues
Image

Any suggestions to what could be causing the issue?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Alan

Looks like marks caused by the pads being worn out .....

Have you checked that your rear pads aren't worn out?

edit: ha, you beat me. Really does look like metal on metal contact, doesn't it?

You go to a brake specialist and they tell you because they can see it first hand better than any photo. If a rotor is scored then its because something hard ie harder than a lining has come into contact with the rotor surface. The rotors will need to be machined though the workshop will check to see if the rotor is within machining spec. If it was badly scored its possible its not recoverable ie below min thickness. Its usual to skim the rotors when the pads are replaced.
