Has any one purchased the flyingmiata kit or have a link to any builds using the kit? Have tried emailing fm about it but still haven't gotten a reply.

MX52NV has most of the FM kit on his car, you could try PM him.

FM is usually reply promptly, if you've asked for a shipping quote give them a little bit more time.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

FM are flat out at the moment. It's PITA but you're best calling them.

The FM kit is good but after just removing it from my MSM I'm glad the engine was out. The dump pipe would have been pretty hard to remove whilst still in the car. Doable, for sure but no fun.

I'd also consider the borg wargner turbo that's recently been released and get Nitro to knock out a manifold and exhaust for you.

If you do go the FM route, don't bother with the crappy rubber hoses they giv standard with the kit and the hardline kit doesn't work with the SE/MSM without mods. I'm in the process of having lines made up to suit.

I thought this was one of their selling points for a smoother airflow and less hassles / weight?

to clarify, I mean the oil and water feeds for the turbo, they can't deal with the heat

I think this is a good approach, upgrading the turbo etc but not boosting so the ecu is not affected.
You should have a nice driving car.

Then when the hardware is sorted you can start a course in electronic engineering to raise the power without blowing the engine up.

That sounds odd from FM, their stuff is usually bulletproof and tends to be "safe" and over-engineered (which is not a bad thing on a turbocharged car).

Would heat sleeves over the hoses fix this?

Is that so? The last thing I want is for it to be a real prick! Are there any other decent kits out there?

Nope, not odd.

I've had the car just under 2 years and < 10K miles in that time. ~ 1 year into owning her I had to trim one of the rubber water lines as where it had the hose clamp on it had simply broken down and was weeping coolant.

A couple of weeks before I pulled the engine I noticed that sweet, sweet smell of coolant and same issue.

Once the engine was out I was able to just break both oil/water lines from the turbo without much effort at all with the hose clamp still in place. And the hoses were also covered in heat stuff supplied with the kit from FM.

I was talking with Jeremy just the other day and confirmed with him it's a wear item and it's also mentioned on their website;

Personally, I think 1 to 2 years before needing to replace a part that's quite involved to get at should be made of more suitable materials to start with. Especially if that part is living directly under the turbo.....

Only hard part was 2 of the nuts securing the DP to the back of the turbo. For some reason on the casting they haven't allowed enough room to get a socket onto the nut and it would be a PITA in the car. Of course, it's the 2 lower nuts.

Don't get me wrong, that and the oil/water lines are my only 2 very small gripes with the kit and shouldn't be enough to turn you off.

On a whole it's a good package that is good quality and shouldn't be too hard to install if you're handy in the garage.

Oh ok I understand what you mean. I might ask if they will supply the kit with out the lines and see if I can get some better ones made up.

Thanks for the info ASE05, I've seen these before on the FM site and assumed that the hard lines were now part of the the standard FM kit kit (didn't read thoroughly enough I guess).
