Re: Megasquirt owners thread
Hi wondering someone could help me I am looking to get a megasquirt for my mx5 nb vvt built at the end of 2000
I contacted a guy on ebay from diyautotune about one he sent me a few questions to answer with working on my car I know I basic stuff, well what I think is basic I will have some friends help me with my car but I need t9 figure what is right for my car
1. What year / make / model / engine / transmission? (Pretend you're at the parts store, ordering a starter.) If this isn't the original engine / electronics, let me know that too.
2. Are you looking to control fuel only, ignition only, or fuel and ignition?
3. Is it important to you to run sequential injection, or is bank to bank fueling OK for you?
4. Beyond fuel and ignition, are there any other must-have features, such as onboard data logging, boost control, nitrous control, cooling fans, etc?
5. What are the engine details (type, number of cylinders, previously fuel injected or carb'd?)
6. What type of ignition system does your car run- is there a distributor? Single/Multiple Coils? Coil on Plug?
7. What sort of sensor(s) does it use to trigger the ignition? Variable reluctor (magnetic pickup)? Optical? Hall effect? Old fashioned mechanical breaker points? Are the sensors triggered by trigger wheels on the crankshaft / flywheel, distributor / cam, or both?
8. How many teeth / windows / slots and are on the crank or distributor trigger wheel? How are they arranged? (Equally spaced, missing teeth gaps, etc)
9. Does this engine have a fast idle valve (IAC)? If so, how many wires are connected to it? Do you know if it is an on/off, pulse width modulated, thermal, or stepper type?
10. Rate yourself 1-5 on technical confidence in yourself. 1 being "I can't paint by numbers" and 5 being "I can probably build a car from scratch if I have the right documentation, and I'm resourceful enough to do some research and find some of my own answers." I need to know this as some of the 'less traveled' roads will require you to make modifications that in some cases I haven't performed myself yet and based on this response it will help me to know whether this type of solution is for you or not. I challenge you to 'stretch yourself' a little bit. You won't ever learn anything (about yourself and your abilities) if you don't try to do things that you're not quite sure you can do... and then find that you can.
11. Are you looking to build your own ECU from a kit or buy a pre-assembled ECU?
12. Are you open to retrofitting a different ignition system or one of our crank trigger kits if it is determined that the MegaSquirt will not properly (or easily) control your factory ignition system, or if we determine your existing sensors / ignition do not support the features you would like to add to this motor?
Sorry about the long post
And hijacking >.<

Re: Megasquirt owners thread
From the info you've provided it's an early NB8B, which in the US is aka MY01 (model year 2001).

Re: Megasquirt owners thread
Need some help. I have a DIYPNP ms2 equiv ecu in my car. everything is hooked up, I'm using a gm AIT sensor, an e30 variable tps and an innovate lc1 wideband unit with analog face gauge. Car is an Aus delivered na6 if that helps.
I was wondering what tps people here have been using and if they have used an e30 tps, how it was modifed. Currently the car starts but runs very VERY lean. Way up in the red at 19 afr. I've sourced what appears to be the cause of the problem and I believe it to be the tps. With the engine off and the key set to ignition, the tps says the throttle position is at 51% and climbing. When the throttle pedal is depressed, I get a reading of 0%. The sensor appears to be reading backwards... I'm guessing on the e30's, the tps was on the opposite side of the throttle body or the throttle body butterfly turns the opposite direction.
Has anyone else experienced this? I want to move on to further calibrate the other sensors etc but I'm currently unable to with my tps issue. Plans are to get the car on the road asap but at this present moment that is not going to happen.
My other question is in regards to pinning the GM AIT sensor in the stock AFM harness. The diagram on the DIYPNP site is of a 94/95 harness and is slightly different to mine. The na6 has more pins in the harness so I'd like to make sure mine are in the correct positions.
Thanks in advance to anyone who lends a hand. Sick of seeing my car gather dust in the garage.

You've wired the TPS backwards?

Re: Megasquirt owners thread
I didn't wire it in at all, e30 one has the same harness as the factory loom so I just clipped it in. So my thoughts are that I have to depin it and move the wires around.

Just wire it up in a temporary way just in case I'm wrong, but I'd bet yep it is wired around the wrong way if the TPS % goes down when you open the throttle.

Re: Megasquirt owners thread
Agree with gslender. Sounds like closed throttle is being activated when you open it up.
The 4AGE 20v tps I used is also straight clip in (4 pin / na8), but requires 2 wires swapped around and operates in backwards so it reads high (current?/voltage?) when closed and low when open.
It's the ms able to be calibrated to use "backwards" ie you tell it what 0 throttle is and 100 and it works out the relationship?

Re: Megasquirt owners thread
Flipped the tps harness the other way around and clipped i in. Now it says 0% throttle when sitting which is good, but when you fully depress the throttle, megasquirt disconnectsand themo fans come on... All this with the engine off.

Re: Megasquirt owners thread
It's a 3 pin plug right? It may be the pin need re ordering not just flipping.
If you could get a wiring diagram of the tps you could work out which is what, but its probably just as fast to do trial and error through the 6 combinations.
