Lenso Project D1 wheels - What're the worth

Postby Kev05 » Thu Jul 18, 2013 1:09 pm

I've a set of Lenso Project D1 15 x 7 +38 wheels that are fitted to my NB. According to an earlier ebay listing, these wheels are $699 for the four new. The condition is good, no gutter rash but one of the rims has a slight stone chip.

Just wondering how much these rims are worth second hand and what people are willing to pay for them?

Is it better to sell the wheels with or without tyres?

Any constructive comment is appreciated.

Cheers

It will be easier to sell them with tyres (if the tyres are still good, if they're bald then it's the opposite)

Unfortunately, tyres don't seem to add much value to a set of wheels unless they're semi slicks or somethign equally expensive brand new.

Value really depends on the buyer, if you advertise them within MX5 forums etc, they're likely to only sell for maybe $300 max (since people these days seem to be wanting low offset over normal fitting wheels)

If advertised elsewhere, maybe a bit more, maybe $400-500

Unfortunately wheels don't seem to hold value well at all, with the exception of some of the rarer/pricier Japanese wheels. (pretty much anything with an SSR badge jumps in price)

I paid $400 for a set of Axis Old School wheels with destroyed tyres about a year ago.
And a few months ago sold a set of Black Racing Watanabe fakes for $300 (3piece wheels though)
And a set of hideous 3 spoke Arbet things for just under $400

Unfortunately for a wheel to sell at a decent price something needs to stand out, either brand, sizing, construction (3 piece/forged/etc)

Unfortunately 2nd hand wheels are not worth much at all, unless they are fully sick jdm bro rims.

You could keep the tyres and use again if they are good and you plan to stick with the same size, or include them to have a more appealing sale, as the buyer can put them straight on.

I had a 17" set of Lenso rims, plus 80% tyres, all up cost like $1500 from a tyre shop, only managed to sell them after 5 weeks for $450.

Thanks HK and EM.

That was my impression of second hand wheels. It is worthless.

I've a club member interested in them and simply seeking out a rough estimate to ensure the price is fair to both parties.

Thanks again.

If the tyres are in decent shape, you're probably better off keeping them for yourself and selling the rims separately for whatever you can get for them (within reason of course, don't go too low-ball unless you just need the space) since you'll need tyres for your next set of rims anyway (assuming you'll still be using the same rim diameter and similar width).

If you can get a reasonable price for the rims+tyres then you may as well package them together.

Take a tip from Emily if you do post them for sale and market them as "Fully sick, JDM Bro Rims" in the subject line, that'll add a few more bucks to the selling price - it'll attract viewers to the post if nothing else.

As others have stated above, rims can be hard to sell unless they're highly desirable or you get lucky with a buyer that is looking for your specific rims.
I still have a set of never-used 16x7 Enkei SC-14 rims sitting in my shed that have been for sale for a few years now and am thinking of turning them into a coffee table with a glass top (ie. using them as a 2x2 base) since they're in mint condition and would look cool.

I reckon they are worth $300. But if someone offered $200, it would need to be considered.

Tyres are more difficult to sell, as they are specific to certain cars. Where wheels will fit a massive array for vehicles.

Thanks, appreciated. :D
