MX5 BREAKFAST CLUB - ICEBERG RUN – 11 AUGUST 2013

Meet : McDonalds McGraths Hill
Time : 5.30am for a start at 6.00am sharp

DETAILS: It’s that time of year again. The weather is settling truly into winter, early morning frosts are common, temperatures away from the coast are dipping below zero 8) and the sunrises are spectacular.

It’s time for the Iceberg Run and anther chance for you to experience an iconic dawn buster run this year. For those not familiar with this annual event, the Iceberg Run is a top-down ‘dawn-buster’ Club event, in a similar vein to the Austin Healey Club’s Brass Monkey but organised by the MX-5 Club of NSW as a XH graded waypoint run. Unlike the mass participation point to point Brass Monkey Run that is obliged to use major highways our Iceberg Run can use great MX-5 roads to escape the urban sprawl and there is none better than the Putty Road. :D The chosen route incorporates a 150km dash up this great drivers road that snakes its way to the awesome tight and twisty Putty Road Gorges well suited to the MX-5  , breathtaking scenery as the sun rises en route as an entree to a run across to the vineyards of the Lower Hunter Valley for a hot breakfast.

This year we will depart at 6am from the McDonalds McGraths Hill and head straight up the Putty Road as far as Milbrodale. From Milbrodale we will drive the short distance across to Broke then take the scenic Broke Road to Pokolbin in the heart of the Lower Hunter Valley for breakfast in Hunter Valley Gardens Village.

As with all prior Iceberg runs, in the absence of heavy rain, this is a NO roof event! Rugging up in thermals, big jackets, gloves and scarves is all part of the fun! Do be prepared, though, for temperatures around zero in the hollows along the Putty Road before the sun hits the valleys. :)

FOR FULL INFORMATION visit the MX5 Club website Events calendar http://www.mx5.com.au/nsw/events.htm and click “More Info” at the Iceberg Run entry for full details for this event.

RSVP Please post your name on the list on this thread if you are keen to join the Iceberg Run as this will enable us to let the café know how many to expect for breakfasts 8.45am!

Phew  May the force be with you Gary at least someone has put their hand up to join me on a run up the Putty Road. :D

I was seriously contemplating changing the name of this dawn buster event to the Ice Cream Run  as it sounded sweeter, more inviting and less intimidating than the Iceberg Run with all the MX Titanic connotations  as nobody had posted since US Independence Day :!:

Then again it may have been an association with the posting date :o as could I cannot accept that MX-5ers could ever be disinterested in a great route

PS. Trevor slow down in the streets of Broke as their cops never give a second chance :P

:D Haha Midori, I couldnt miss this one mate. I thought i should mention that on my last vist to the valley (Mid May) part of Broke Rd was under roadworks meaning unsealed road, very smooth but watered down to prevent dust so lots of mud for that WRC look.

Trev, Hit me up on FB to arrange a meeting place so we can convoy to McGraths Hill in the morning. Any other southies please do the same.
