First I've heard of that one :? The pipes sometimes hit on the front roll bar, but just need to loosen the clamps on the silicone joiners and move the piping around a bit so that it is far enough away from the roll bar.

5) Similarly, the clutch line which goes across to the left side of the car can also suffer from heat exposure from the turbo and exhaust. Braided stainless clutch line directly from master to slave solves this.
6) The standard SP clutch is awful. Replace with something such as Exedy Sports Tuff as soon as you get the chance!
7) The standard plastic Bosch blow off valve is not particularly durable. Replace with same when necessary, or buy a metal one and never worry about it again.
Pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever.

I don't believe these issues (except maybe Common mod #2 on tracked cars) are actually a problem with the stock MSM/SE since they've only been reported by people who've made performance modz to their car (feel free to cite any cases where stock MSM/SEs have suffered these issues, I'm only aware of them on modded cars).

The stock MSM/SE puts out about 110rwkw and with nothing more than a CAI, manual boost controller set to around 9.0psi and 2.5" exhaust, 145rwkw is easily achievable - that's almost 32% above stock.

Most car components are only engineered with a cost-effective safety margin (eg. 20%) so modding your car beyond this will cause issues.

ie. Mazda engineered the MSM/SE to be reliable at its stock power levels (which is why it has small 265cc injectors, a teeny-tiny-token intercooler, a low 7.5psi boost limit and the rubber elbow with hose clamp).

1) OEM BOV is plastic and is known to leak, even when the car is stock - usually one of the first components upgraded (by now, most MSM/SEs probably have this replaced already).

I keep forgetting to post this little "GEM":

MSM/SE Steering Rack:

Mazda shortened the steering rack stroke to keep the tires from rubbing (from 60.5mm to 53.2mm); the ratio remains the same.

This results in a "4 foot larger turning circle compared to other NBs".

- yet another "BRILLIANT" reason for adopting 17" rims on the MSM/SE, "way to go Mazda"!

Ummm, isn't that more to do with the rim and tyre width?
The offset and rolling diameter are exactly the same as every other NB out there, so the only difference is the 0.5" wider rim and 205 profile tyres..... Correct me if I'm wrong but you'd have the same problem with a 15" or 16" rim if it was 7" wide, +40 offset, and with a 205 profile tyre.... :|

Think of it this way, by doing what they have done it actually makes it easier to fit wider tyres to an SE, without rubbing, on your rim diameter of choice, than a standard NB! :mrgreen:

That explains a great many things, guess a regular NB rack is on the mod list now.
