If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Do we know if another MX5 graced Bob's driveway?

I recall seeing that shortly after I got the silver SE, sent chills down my spine.

With Mazda having a total of 130 dealers nationwide, not all dealers will get an MX-5 SP.

Most will be sold in Sydney and Melbourne but there will be some available in other States, with 45 heading to NSW; 33 to Victoria; 10 for Queensland; four for South Australia and eight for Western Australia.

Gold Coast Mazda had at least two SPs in June 2002 - a Black one and a Silver one. I bought the Silver one because of the hand prints all over the black one. There was also a Titanium as well as a stock standard NB. So, some dealers got more than one SP allocated.

...I know of at least 4 SP's sold new through Grand Prix at Aspley. "Dealer of the Year" privilege perhaps?

OEM Injectors

SE: 265cc (light purple) 195500-4060

SP: 305cc (light green) 23250-70080 (NipponDenso injectors from the Toyota Supra 89-92 7MGE)
(Source: Dave, http://mx5cartalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=37459)

These Supra 305cc (also sold as 315cc) injectors can be used by MSM/SE owners who upgrade to a CAI, bump their boost and add a larger exhaust since the OEM 265cc injectors will run lean (with these mods and ~10psi of boost, the MSM/SE can produce ~145rwkw). Based on trial and error, the guys on the US mazda-speed.com site found that 321cc injectors are the largest injector that the MSM/SE's OEM ECU can idle nicely. Unfortunately these injectors are almost impossible to find, unlike the Supra 305/315cc injectors which are much easier to locate.

Dave suggested that the 305cc injectors are good to about 160kw so they're perfect for a lightly modded MSM/SE.

Ah yes. "Snow White" (aka the QLD version of MX5-SP) was sold by Grand Prix Mazda on 26/07/2002 - which I think, Gerard, makes her (technically) younger than "Foo Foo Dust". Hence to better looks.

Really?! Well that makes 5 then...

The better white SP was also sold new through Grand Prix!.... On the 14th Feb 2002, which supports your claim of the younger white SP being the younger, better looking version quite nicely. :P

Yes. I think you will find my maths to be correct.

BTW: Two-seater cars with non-matching seats will always look funny.

Looks like the list is getting there.

The next step I want to do is make an SP / SE sticky with a link to this document and a list of links to common issues/questions/solutions/modifications.

I'd also like to have photos of each of the unique parts like the carbon airbox, SP sticker, SE cam cover. I'd love others to help supply the photos but you have to be happy for me to save them and modify/resize/crop etc as required.

And at least a side photo of each colour as the car left from the factory (original wheels, ride height etc.)

Post any photos you don't mind me using.

For the sticky I think if we start a running list (as we do with group buys) then people can add to it.

SP
Common issues
1) Intercooler pipe replacement ... (link to write up here)
2)

Common mods
1) $2 mod, moving the tube for the waste gate .. (link to write up here)
2) Differentials (link to write ups here)

SE
Common issues
1) Intake rubber elbow inflating and blowing off (link to write ups here)
2) Loose Exhaust studs (link to write ups here)
Common mods
1) Catch can return valve (link to write up here)
2) Intercooler options (link to write ups here)
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
