Are Splitters/air dams legal in QLD?
Hey guys,
So i am considering permanently fixing a splitter for increased frontal down force on my na6, but wondering if it is legal here in QLD or not, otherwise i will have the devise a way that it can be removable after an event.
And later down the track i may go with something like this:
Depending if i can get away with it or not let me know what you guys think, anything will be appreciated thanks!

Provided it does not project beyond a vertical line from the bumper it should be ok.

The air dam is legal. The protruding splitter is not.
Patricks splitter comes off in about 2 minutes.

Oh really, so you know how the tip of a na6's nose extends further than the base of the front bumper does, if i keep it within that, you guys reckon it would be alright?
When you think about it, its sort of like having a Garage vary lip

None yet. The splitter is 2 sheets of 4.5mm ABS. It was a bit too flexible at the front so I added 2 more supports on the front and now I can stand on it. Further it is not attached to the lip, what I have done is put some felt on the splitter so it does not damage or rub on the lip.
Good luck and I'm happy to send more photos.

I'm no expert on Qld law, but I've read the NCOPs in detail. My instict was that, under the NCOPs at least, this sort of stuff would certainly require engineering.
However, after having a read, it seems that the requirements are really very generous (in the NCOPs). I draw your attention to NCOP6 Section LH Body Modifications V2 available online: http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/ ... _ncop.aspx
Basically as long as you're using appropriate fastners and your material is strong enough, you can do what you like. I couldn't see any requirements about being within the nose or impact on pedestrian safety. I'm as surprised as you!

However the Queensland police make the decision:
It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure that any attachments comply with regulations and that they are designed in a manner that reduces the risk of injury to pedestrians or other road users when their vehicle is parked or in motion.
The Department of Transport and Main Road (TMR) has provided clear guidelines as to how, what and where some of these attachments are to be fitted.
Driving lights and brackets must not protrude from the the front face of any bumper or above the top of any bull or roo bar. While some drivers have noticed that having a 2,000 watt halogen light on top of the bull bar will restrict their vision, others have not and this is also against TMR regulations.

also
The Australian Design Rule 42.9.1 (1988) states: "No vehicle shall be equipped with any object or fitting, not technically essential, which protrudes from any part of the vehicle so that it is likely to increase the risk of bodily injury to any person."

Also it can not be lower than 100mm from the ground as per roadworthy check height.

Re: Are Splitters/air dams legal in QLD?
Lots of valuable info guys, thanks for that! Ill be using atleast >12mm plywood and fixing alu or steel plates to reinforce the splitter and fix it to the underneath.
similar to this pic, that way i wont have to use those fittings that i forgot the name of, which arent cheap.
I guess i could run it by the engineer when i go for my engineering/mod plates

These (Charlie91 did some of the testing on the first version which had wire and not Heim rod ends to hold it on)
which are now for sale at http://miataroadster.com/kazespec_engineering/kazespec_engineering_splitter_hardware_kits/kseshk/i-1680573.aspx development thread is http://clubroadster.net/vb_forum/85-junior-sponsors/56430-full-aero-kits.html
