^couldn't be more true!
I would just like to thank everyone on here, you guys have been incredibly helpful and encouraging.
I have enjoyed this venture so much so, that I have swapped degree's to Mechanical Engineering
Absolutely loving it.
I will finish writing about the engine swap and some other fun things tonight

What uni are you studying at? See if they have a Formula SAE team - probably the best thing you can do at uni. Possibly ever.
Cheers,

Re: Emily's NA6 V-Special Roadster
Ok so, gonna finish writing this up haha.
The Astina Valve cover has the breather barb where my coil packs need to go.
So I relocated them. I know, over the exhaust isnt the greatest spot, but its the only place the leads would reach.
I was either going to get really long leads and mount the away on the firewall somewhere, or just man up and do a cop conversion.
I mounted them on offset brackets supported through the rocker cover holes. and an aluminium tube to get the right angle.
Engine went in all good, although I have to say this was by far the hardest thing to do. Lining the mounts up etc. Huge thanks to my bestest friend ever Martin for helping out.
One hiccup was the clutch line, which got in the way, and was accidentally snapped
I decided to get a custom one made up. Big thanks to Enzed in brookvale who were very helpful and gave me a nice discount
It fits in the oem bracket!
Lots of hassles with the exhaust manifold. My fault for buying a cheap set of YAJ that had the flexijoint rotted out, so was very hard to align the flange again.
Close but no cigar.
Huge thanks to Suli/rxmx/PureMX5 for doing great welding and getting them to fit.
First start up, crank crank crank crank... nothing....
Ok, don't stress, something just isnt plugged in?
After well and truly throwing the toys out of the cot, turns out I had never reconnected the fuel pump when i changed it lol.
Second start up, crank- STARTS!!!!! sounds great no aweful noises or smoke or anything! cheering!
As soon as I depressed the clutch to drive it out of the garage, smoke everywhere.
turned it off straight away, very distressed. Turned out that the new clutch line just wasn't tight enough, so fluid spurted out onto the extractors.
Bled the clutch and retightened.
Third start, crank, start, drive. FAR OUT SO FKN INCREDIBLE!
I babied it just for a couple of minutes, didn't bog the engine but didnt thrash it, just to get everything warmed up to make sure it was all working.
Rev'd it through the range gently, not going past 4k a couple of times, then let it cool down and turned it off.
waited till it was cool, then started it again, same thing but went to 5k. then 6k.
It has so much more power than my wobbly 1.6.
1.8L with the 1.6 flywheel is a great combo, it revs so quickly, its lovely and zippy, but more torque.
First "big" trip, went to Mania for a check up
And thats that. I have enjoyed it for several months now, with the biggest smile on my face.

Re: Emily's NA6 V-Special Roadster
Thanks guys
Unfortunately the aftermarket seals have not held up, and the car has sprung lots if leaks
I ordered all new genuine Mazda seals from mx5.uk
I changed the camshaft seals and the cas O ring, and will take it to mania to change the front crank shaft seal.
I finally got an oem lip aswell, looks so good

Re: Emily's NA6 V-Special Roadster
Well well well. A bit of an update. I am putting this car up for sale.
Why? There are so many reasons, many of which a lot of you wont understand.
The main one but the car is a very rare limited edition special.
I have just acquired a matching brg hardtop, so now it is complete with all its options it had back in 1990. it is worth a lot, especially as it has a stronger engine now.
I dont want to "ruin" it.
When you put turbo's on things, you will never get that money back, and resale goes out the window.
I need to start with a cheaper /standard car to play with, not this one, its too nice.
Also, its not very aggressive, its a bit old man-ish.
I have always liked body modifications similar to charlie_91. Jubiride bolt on flares and gv lip, I love the KG works boot lip, and with immaculate paint and stance to help keep it "clean".
I am studying mech. engineering now, and im learning all about fluid and aerodynamics. I want to have a modified car that i have designed myself that reprisents what i like. I feel the brg and tan classic is holding that back.
plus its an NA6, the breaks and diff are rubbish.
Yes i know they can be swapped but i would prefer a car that just has it all to begin with.
Dont worry, I'm not leaving just yet, I have already bought another NA8.
It needs heaps of work, but its a great start. Its got an NB8A VICS engine, bought from Mania with 45,000km on the receipt:)
I will continue on this thread I think.

Re: Emily's NA6 V-Special Roadster
Happy to hear you're not leaving the 5 scene quite yet Emily.
Sad about letting the V-Special go but focus changes. Sounds like the next one is going to be a great build to watch as well.
I was doing the same by just continuing Mexie's thread with my NB until I lost all my pictures Now I need to start a new one when some time to spare.
Looking forward to what comes next ...
