NB Clutch & Flywheel replacement WA

Lets be clear the standard practise for clutch replacements is to reface the flywheel- as stated earlier intention is to present a flat unmarred surface- the same deal with brake discs. It is normally achieved with only a small amount skimmed/ shaved ie to remove hot spots etc- its removed by machining it and has nothing to do with a lightening process. Emily is not correct with his idea of what shaving is. An experienced transmission / clutch repairer should have no problems and there should be a warranty on the work and the kit.

Only thing I would maybe stall the operation for is a light flywheel if it was <$200 but that's not going to happen. Would be nice though..

Again, I looove the idea of it and have the same philosophy as Okibi, might as well throw it in while we're there... but not for that much more $$$

If you want a lightened flywheel there's no better time to fit it than when you're having to replace the clutch or similar. Otherwise it's going to cost you hundreds of dollars in labour to do it later instead of spending a few extra dollars now.

A number of formites have got lightened flywheels & have been very happy, indeed can't recall anyone that wasn't happy with the result.

Emily said exactly that - machining is just skimming a very small amount off the fly, and is not lightening it.


93_Clubman, it's been clear to me a while ago to take mr morlock's advice with a pinch of salt as he does seem to be very knowledgeable but have a personal issue with lightweight flywheels.

Time to put an end this thread I'm going to go with simply machining my fly because I probably wouldn't do a light fly in the future, only considered doing it as you and a few others have said, because if I wanted it I might as well do it while doing the clutch its common sense. Simply don't have the money now or time to wait for one off ebay/gumtree and not sure how well I could trust such sources. I can live without it though i know it would make me very happy like the other forumites you refer to

Thanks for all the advice but I'll just be going with a new clutch and machined fly, save my money for suspension all round that is going to make a properly noticeable difference. I'm currently on original shocks and springs (180,000km+) in 3 corners and one corner that has been replaced *cheaply*

So I'd like to focus there next and get this clutch malarkey over with, and get back to the driving. Thank you all again

If ur still keen i've got a japan lightened flywheel thats just a tad under 4kg with the pilot bearing. Am in perth too if u wanna swing round to hv a look.
