Pete's track focused daily na6t in the making

I'm pretty lazy with this sort of thing, but i figured I'd share a little about my build. Bought a stock na6 with 110xxx kms on it last year in November. I am more into performance than form, but that doesn't mean ill drive a piece of poo even though that's what it looks like at the moment, hah.

Since then Ive installed yellow speed coil overs, AGI half cage, 949 6UL's 15x7.5's with 205/50/15 ku31's. Sparco Sprint V, 4-Point Sabelt Harness, 330mm Momo Corse steering wheel.

Ive been stocking up parts for a reliable and capable track toy which should be completed in a few weeks in preparation for the July 15th track day at lakeside.

the B6 motor will be staying stock and looking to run about 7-10psi and stoked to start getting tonnes of track time! Radiator ducting and aero will be done once turbo is complete and I've attained some driving skill.

Been working my ass off while studying for the past year to get to where i am, moneys been focused on parts to go faster, hence you will all see why my car looks the way it does. Also I'm on a student budget, I've planned to paint it dark blue using International Toplac Marine paint using a roller haha. I know what all of you must be saying- this dude is on crack.
If you've read about people using marine paint to do full resprays under $50 bucks then you'll know what I'm on about .

You wont regret the tall diff ratio when you have more torque than you know what to do with.

The ku31's were $110 a corner including balancing and fitting how could i not jump on that. But after this ill be going rs3's but first to see how these handle on the track. My driving skills surely won't be efficient enough to need top of the line treads and what not just yet.

But Nitrodann had because i bought his t28, log manifold, 2.5" full exhaust and dump pipe, and i also had him fabricate a intake pipe and intercooler kit. So today i went nuts and hacked at my spare bumper that was already damaged by the previous owner. I decided to drill some holes with a hole saw. Did i go overboard? just thought it would help reduce air getting trapped underneath now it looks like i might as well drive around with no bumper oh well, function > form!

Another thing i did today was take some pictures with my awesome iphone, because i broke my camera, don't ask me how i did it.

I also started to get on to prepping the car for the turbo set up- DIY Oil catch can. I bought a air compressor filter with some fittings and it works great for a fraction of the cost. Bought it from trade tools for 39 bucks https://www.tradetools.com/products/FR892 Used some 9.6 mm heater hose and some hose clamps. The filter came with a bracket which was awesome, found there was not much space to put it. Tried to place the hoses in the best place away from the heat that my turbo and mani will make. All up about $50 bucks

So this is just my trial using the Brightside Toplac which was $40 something bucks from a marine paint shop i forgot the name of. I was looking for a deeper navy blue but this will do, it was called 'Oxford Blue'. So i thought i would trial it on a piece which i could remove and still drive around without attracting attention for the police. Which was the rear garnish panel, i sanded it down with 400 grit wet sand paper, didn't take long maybe 30 minutes. Once that was completed i washed it clean of dust and whatever and measured about 25mls of paint with 10% thinner. I used penetrol which is a oil based thinner (for a oil based paint) but is also great because its seals the surface really well and increases adhesion to the paint.

Normally with this kind of paint its recommended to use a high density roller, but i opted for a quality brush since the rear garnish has angles that a roller cannot simply get to. And here are the results after its first coat. Apparently its good after 6 hours, but i left it for about a day before really handling it.

Eventually ill get around to the rest of the car, its just difficult because as you can see (not too sure if you can see it) but a fair bit of small dust particles got stuck to it. And imagine painting an entire car. I'll also have to mention i don't have a garage only a carport so unless i fab up an enclosed space protecting the car from dust and what not the results wont turn out great.

So what am i doing up at this hour, heading off to work thats what. Because its uni holidays and i'm broke after each pay cheque received haha

Anyways what I found on TrackHQ.com last night was an awesome cheap way to log your track days. This is far more than i need for the moment but it was what i was planning to look for in the future to work on my driving skills such as entry and exit speeds, braking, smoothness of my transitions and what not.

What i found was this link to a blog http://hikickracing.blogspot.com.au/2010/11/racechrono-reasonably-priced-data.html, if anyone is interested also. It uses a GPS receiver which collects data to your phone, Phones such as my old Nokia n95 uses a Symbian OS which is the preferred OS for an App called RaceChrono encoded by a bunch of finnish people. This app is free by the way, so that step was pretty much free, next was i needed a GPS receiver and after some reading i found QSTARZ receivers to be a quality and cost effective option used by many motorsport racers.

So i ebayed the thing to see how much they were for us in Australia, and found a used Qstarz BT Q1000X GPS Receiver for $20 bucks! im stoked and can't wait to try it out on the track Further more you can even add more parameters if you use bluetooth OBD2 reader but for us Na6'ers we don't have this option.
