Trev's MY06 NC1
Hi guys,
Probably seen me around in the forums every now and so often. Neil with his Supercharged goodness and his amazing blog got me into writing this
Almost 3 years in the workforce, after buying my first every property and i finally have my first car that i purchased myself Revealling my MY06 NC1 in Galaxy Grey
Having dríven a '04 Corolla for almost 6 years, it was time for a change. My dad was kind enough to 'give' me the car for everyday use. It had followed me from L's to P's to Fulls to driving everyday to work. It wasnt the best drive but it got me from A-B.
When i bought the car it had around 77,000 KM's on it. Paint work wasn't the best but it was very well priced. I was on the constant look out for a Black NC (got alot of inspiration from Guy Coles car), but i couldn't resist myself.
The car needed alot of general cleaning and detailing as it was never really taken care of. I could tell it was always parked outside so the quest began to get this car back into shape. Headed to my first ever Barge/MX5 detailing session at Rob's coffee shop. I was quite hesitant, but Guy insisted i go as i would learn a lot there. And indeed i did... On that day, my car officially became a Barge Racing Team member
I had did a clay bar session for around 3 hours on the car which removed all of the concrete substance along the side skirt. It extended all the way to where the red circle stops. You can still see some in the inner guard as well.
For the space of around a month, i only did minor things to the car. I changed the MX-5 badge to a Roadster badge (inspiration from Reggie). Changed the Bose Head unit to a custom Single din one which i had in my Corolla, so i could listen to my songs on my iPhone (which i do kinda regret). Plastidipped my rims black with metalizer as well
With the help from Guy (again), i installed HID's to the car having to remove the front bar completely. I was actually tempted to just leave it without the front bar. Looks cool
Long weekend, and my first ever track day with a good mate who inspired me to buy an MX-5. We went to Marulan and i got a pretty impressive feel for what the car was in stock form. All those hours with my PS3 and GT5 really contributed to me understanding lines. Other than its body roll and the crappy tyres, i couldn't complain. The car was amazing.
And then came along the Ohlins which i purchased off Neil. That same morning, i drove to Reggie's place to install them. We had a MASSIVE blonde moment. Thinking we were missing a bush for the rears when we weren't. We didnt even bother reading the instruction manual, so the car stands as is for the time being. As reggie says, Dragster spec
I'll need to adjust the height as the car, literally, can get stuck on my driveway (which i've already proved i can) or it will scrape.... So this weekend with the help of Guy and Reggie, the rears will be put in and another update pending. Potential race we have between Reggie and Guy... who can install the rears quicker

Re: Trev's MY06 NC1
So yesterday, myself, Sir Reginald and Sir Guy met up *again* to finish the install for the coilovers. Guy and Reggie would get their rear guards rolled by PhilB, who did a great job. We had a friendly visitor from the forum who runs of the name of Sailor as well
Here is my car as it stands at the moment. You can see Reggie's previous set of RPF1's in the background which were unbelievably snapped up within a few hours!
Guy's car with some sort of sorcery happening?!?!?!
His actually getting his guards rolled , getting ready for his BBS'...
and lastly a random shot of the 3 NC's which stayed for the whole day.
Heading to Spinning Wheels this weekend to get my wheels aligned then heading to a casual MX5 meet up @ Waverton . Haven't had the ability to drive the car on a dry day to feel what these ohlins can do. I don't think Sydney will let me for a while unfortunately.
What was a horrible day to do anything became quite a productive and enjoyful day. One more modification to go before i have to wait until the property settles unless a Mazdaspeed kit becomes available. Something i've dreamed about day in and day out since Neil had it on his car.

Re: Trev's MY06 NC1
Alot has happened since the last time i updated this. A few mods worthy of some attention. Some people might find the parts rather familiar
New rims, Intake and small rear spoiler lip
Racing beat intake
My review: Now rumble on lower revs and around is ALOT louder when pushing it. Much better response and probably a little bit more push when throttle opens up. The scoop which protects the filter definitely is a benefit over the AEM/Mazdaspeed intake. Can't wait to pair this up with an aftermarket exhaust.
Unfortunately the girlfriend lives in Auburn where my car just scratches on ALL THE SPEED HUMPS so i raised the car which also solved the scrubbing i got when turning on a slight angled road... IMO, the RPF1's are definitely look best on the Galaxy Grey NC, but then i could be biased. I also fitted a OEM aftermarket lip which i got at an amazing price on Yahoo Auctions from Japan. Didn't need any painting or adjustments as it came in Galaxy Grey. Installing was a sinch but needed to drill holes in the front bumper.
Took the car to Wakefield for MX-5 Club of NSW track day which was on a Monday. I worked on Bank Holiday so i managed to get a Day in Lieu for my first official track day (I don't treat Marulan as a track )
First few sessions was cold and we had sprinkling of rain... Managed to clock a 1:23:1 for my fastest time of the day, which also included two slip ups Cold temps, Rain and varying weather wasn't in my favour. Coming off the track twice shook my confidence up but definitely looking forward to the next track day on Nov 3.
Should see a few more mods before Oct/Nov as property settles around then. Exhaust is next then front and rear strut bars. Exhaust has been ordered... We'll keep that a secret who manufactures that:D
