Lightyears Red NA8B track car.

Postby lightyear » Wed Jun 19, 2013 9:13 pm

The c.f car thread has been taken over by this car. So I thought I would separate them. I talked to tyrone and it looks like the engine for the c.f car may be getting dynoed in the next month. So there may be progress on it again.

Image

1991 NA6 body wrapped around 2001 NB8B everything.

So it has the following bits -

Standard 130,000km NB8B Motor, ecu and 6 speed box with lightweight flywheel and H.D clutch. Mazdaspeed engine mounts. $300 eBay extractors, and straight through exhaust with $90 offset in-out muffler.
Standard intake and paper Ryco filter.
Standard Torsen 4.3 diff out of ???
Standard NB8B ABS brakes, with carbotech pads, RBF660 fluid and braided brake lines.
Standard (ish) 15x9 6ul wheels and 225 nittos.
Standard NB8B fuel lines, filter and pump and full wiring loom.
Standard rubber bushes on standard suspension. Mixture of NB and NA. With a set of B.C Coilovers I bought second hand for $600. A white line front swaybar, standard NB rear.
Standard NA manual steering rack. With NB8B column and NA MOMO steering wheel on quick release hub.
Inside there is a Velo race seat, harness, cobra race seat for brave passengers, NB8B dash, console and carpets. And a 3 point rollbar. It has the full interior as well as the heater core/fan, etc. As per modified class rules. The only real luxury is the power windows.
NB8B elec boot release working of key remote. Must have for quick shock settings.
Standard hardtop.
G.V boot lid spoiler, and modified G.V front spoiler (part carbon fibre, part expander foam and part teruo fibreglass).
It's not an overly powerful car, but it's fun to drive. And handles well except for the oversteer. Hopefully can set it up a bit better.
It is always very reliable and competitive. I just put fuel in it normally. Never uses oil, and runs/starts just like a standard car.
I just do regular services on it. And I am sure it will last a long time.
Only problem is I have a complete built turbo motor with everything except the ecu sitting here waiting to go into a car.....

Look at that .gif; this car's so powerful that it's bending the track to its will! No wonder a few folks kicked up a stink about your class allocation. :P

I always enjoy reading your updates Lightyear. Looking forward to seeing some progress on the CF car too.

Take note boys and girls, that is the fast way around the corner...
Seriously though - How did you photo shop that? Because I never make mistakes. Looks real even. Like I was sliding. Lol.

I won the final round of the VSSC on Saturday. A new P.B on a slow cold Phillip Island day.
Most of the regular guys were about 2 seconds off there best time. So happy to get a 1:52.6
My competition in the Elise was 2.6 seconds slower. So easy win.
He has won twice, and come second twice. I also have won twice, and come second twice. So not sure who will win the championship. My wins were by a much larger margin, so hopefully they work it out like that.
No video, as I still have not received my replacement new camera. Teruo...

The car surprised me at winton last weekend. On a cold drying track I managed to get the car down to a 1:38.7.
I was expecting to get a low 1:40 or high 1:39. That is in mod class rules. So no wing, fastback, splitters, etc. And no weight removed. Running only an exhaust for power upgrade. Stock intake.
Also was the fastest car on the day. Slow alfas.....

It has 245s and 8s though right? And suspension. I mean, that doesnt detract from it at all, just wondering what mods it did have.

Dann it has what is in the opening post. So 225 nittos on 15x9's. b.c Coilovers, exhaust, front swaybar, decent brake pads and brake fluid.

And NB8b motor, and 6spd, and big brakes, and 4.3 diff.
It's the ideal package.

I am thinking of selling this car at the end of the year. So if anyone is interested, let me know, and start saving.
Price will depend on what you want with the car. You are basically buying an NB8B in an NA6 shell (that has been set up for track use).
Not much can match the on track performance of this car for the money - The cost of the car, as well as the running costs.

I have not really worked out the price as is, but it would be about $9,000 with everything as it sits.
The price can be negotiated if you didn't want the wheels and tyres, hardtop, seat, rollbar, etc.
The car is an Aussie delivered car that was registered just before I bought it. And can be re registered with a little work. Like - seatbelt, exhaust, wind the Coilovers up, and put some stock wheels on.

New track today (for me), went to Calder. Car went great, did a 1:08.5. Brendan did about 0.09 faster, and Paul ledwith went about 0.06 seconds slower. very close results, but they are not in my class, so still won my class. Good to see Brendan, Paul and I soooo close.

Pics coming soon....

Thanks for the uploads.

I did manage to get the oversteer under control a bit more by playing with the settings, and probably the biggest change was driving a bit slower. In my head I think the car should get around the corner at a certain speed. But the car can't do it. I need slicks to get full potential from my driving style.

Interesting panel gaps on the white car Brendan. Did you have a previous career building MGs?
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)
