shipping exhausts from goodwin
I just ordered one for my NC, then noticed a general note at the bottom of the web page for the exhaust I ordered that says:
'SORRY, this small item ends up in comparatively large box that is too big for the postal size limits for shipping to New Zealand and Australia.'
http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Pe ... -1326.html
I've sent an email to them but has anyone here ordered a muffler from Goodwin and had it shipped to Australia before?

I bought the RoadsterSport Q Muffler from GWR and was able to consolidate shipping with some other items via seafreight.
There are postal size limits from the USA and when I last checked the shipping cost via Fedex/UPS can be expensive.

Thanks,
How did you specify sea freight? UPS global was the only option available.

The company I work for has suppliers in the US.
I had GWR ship it to them for consolidation with a shipment via seafreight.
Maybe contact another freight forwarder.

Interesting that the note isn't on the RoadsterSport Q mufflers
I've ordered a midpipe from GWR although it came in two pieces and I know others have ordered the RoadsterSport Q mufflers without an issue.
Hopefully Brian will come back with good news to you.

Re: shipping exhausts from goodwin
I've been looking at the exhaust and headers but i can only budget in for one of them. I find the exhausts shipping costs wayyyy too expensive!

Re: shipping exhausts from goodwin
From Brian at Goodwin:
"What it means is that website ship quote based on weight does not help us, because for your country the box for this item is beyond the size limits for USPS service. It could ship FEDEX but at substantially higher cost. I understand that our dealer GoMiata might have another means of getting it there and you might as them to quote it."
I'm now waiting for goodwin to reply to find out how much more fedex is.

Australia Post has a 105cm handling limit unless it's changed very recently.

Re: shipping exhausts from goodwin
My stuff from Brian has always come Fedex.
Mufflers, midpipes, coilovers and the two bloody big boxes that the SC came in.
Be aware that all the stuff comes in oversized boxes packed with expanding foam bags so absolutely no chance of damage
The very best way to order through Goodwin is to contact Brian by email and ask him to quote.
If the price is OK he'll then send you a PayPal payment request.
If you let him know that you're in no hurry, the shipping cost can sometimes be reduced at the risk of the delivery possibly being delayed by a few days.
Don't try and order through the website....It just doesn't recognise we antipodeans.

Re: shipping exhausts from goodwin
Thanks guys. The shipping costs via fedex are more than the cost of the muffler itself, and going through gomiata is $195 for shipping so I'm gonna leave it for now.

Re: shipping exhausts from goodwin
I'm considering the order of a header from GWR.
I can arrange to consolidate shipping via seafreight for a lower freight cost.
Maybe we can arrange a group buy?
Let me know if there is any interest.

Re: shipping exhausts from goodwin
if you have the right contacts like Pie ( consolidation via contacts) freight can be quite reasonable esp if you can get sea freight. Its not all uncommon to pay freight of 100% of the selling price by air. Importers can get freight content down to < 10% of the freights value so its easy to understand why shipping by sea in full containers is so cost effective. So many of the US "retail" sellers only use the standard services like US Post and this works fine for smaller parcels. And the thing to remember is that you either pay for weight or volume by formulae. A carton which is full of packaging or airspace is something you pay for.

Re: shipping exhausts from goodwin
I bought a Roadstersports Q from Go Miata in the USA. It was the the same price as Brian Goodwin, however the freight charges were far lower than what Brian quoted. It was delivered to my local Post Office for pick-up. I also bought the baffles, however, after trying both fitted and unfitted, I prefer the sound without the baffles fitted. It is a beautiful note, not too loud, very sporty with no drone at highway speed. I have read that the latest version of this exhaust has rolled ends to the tips which is a much nicer look. Fitting is easy. There is no need to even jack up the rear. Brian Goodwin has a fact sheet on how to fit the exhaust on his forum thread. Takes about 30 minutes.
2007 NC PRHT, stormy blue mica. BBS rims, Eibach sports springs, Bilstein shocks, Whiteline sway bars, Roadster Sports Q exhaust. Other small mods.
