Andrew's NA6

Postby ampersandDrew » Wed Jun 19, 2013 1:24 am

Hello fellow forum-ers,

Names Andrew and I decided to introduce myself and start the diary a little early.. Although I should be studying haha :? . I picked up my first mx5 about a month ago and been loving the car ever since!

To cut things short.. I was looking for a car to buy and always liked the mk1 mx5's since high school. Before the mx5 I have owned a 1984 corolla KE70 & 1989 Honda CRX. The change from a RWD to FWD was actually not that bad, seeing as I lerant how to drive a car properly haha. Soon after the car died on me I was left car-less for about 1 - 2 years :(. Recently I found one for an excellent price with a few problems. Upon inspection the problems weren't all that bad and luckily being a little hands on, I knew how to fix them. I bought the car a few days later and started working on it since.

The funny thing is, I started collecting parts for the car before I got it HAHAAH!

This is what it looked like when i got it:

Thanks for reading my little introduction, if it can even be considered one.

Before I sleep I shall post up one of the first mods I did to my car :).

I think the steps were as follows:

1. Apply Wax & Grease remover to the tail lights
2. Spray 3 light coats of VHT red shades in 15-30 minute intervals
3. Sand down with 1000 grit sand paper (WET)
4. Spray 3 coats of clear coat and sand down with 2000 grit (WET)
5. Apply a really thick layer of polish & it should stay shiny for the remainder of its life

So you bought this one. It was pretty cheap but the paint appears to be in poor condition. How's the rest of the car?

The paint was bad at first but still had life left in it, so I used Tcut compound. Cut and polish does wonders and now the cars looking good as new. I recently sanded the rusty trunk lid and a hole formed so I bogged it up and patched that area. Will get those pics up soon as well. Overall the car was in great condition, interior was awesome and drove a bit sluggish. So I did a major on it at the workshop and it purs like how a NA6 should :).

That and I added a full exhaust system with extractors and CAI haha! Right now how it sits, I like to think its lightly modded so hopefully I solve the picture issues and post them up.

I drove a friend's NA6 and it felt quite slow compared to mine, even when mine was stock which was a surprise.

But anyways, it's an awesome little car with nice handling :).
