Well I have seen a NB where for whatever reason the screen height issue is not as bad as some I've tried. Though I think if I bought it I'd still remove the drivers sunvisor.

None of the NC's I've looked at have k's over about 75k so I would not think suspension wear would be an issue at all at that stage.

Mychael People are happily running around in MX5s with serious KM's on them without having replaced any part of the suspension. The vehicles NB or NC are still regarded as very robust and reliable. I would not even think about suspension options unless my vehicle was showing signs of wear and that is going to be + 150Klm as a guess.The MX5 is a better car than me insofar as limits are concerned. PS I would never remove the sunvisor either on an NB- its far too useful in blocking out the sun esp with the roof down and it swivels. I have a pair of high quality boots ( RM's) -they have never fitted properly and I am donating to the Salvos for someone who will love them - a car that does not fit properly...

I've come from a back ground of old pommy sportcars from the 60's with no sunvisors at all.
Sunnies, caps and lotion are the norm for me.

From a comfort point of view I found the seat in the NB to be nicer to sit in the the NC.

As I'm looking at cars generally with around 100000 odd k's on them I thought this discussion might be the place to ask what is the expected life out of the stock springs and dampers?

I know that the sort of roads it's been on and style of driving has some bearing but would you geneally expect to be replacing stuff around then. A lot of forumites go for various types of aftermarket equipment well before anything wears out, but in terms of OEM dampers reckon with normal use probably good for 160k kms or more.

Okay so from reading the posts so far I can see the consensus for comfortable road use (which I'll be doing) is to retain the standard ride height.

Would you then only replace the dampers and with what? Are Koni's the popular choice? Or is there a better recommendation? Koni dampers & King or Eibach springs were a popular replacement for NAs, but a number of forumites go for coilovers these days & then it really comes down to how much you want to spend.

What about the springs them selves would you replace them at the same time or retain the factory fitted ones. Probably most often replaced at the same time.

A foamectomy of the seat base is not an uncommon mod for taller drivers. I'm 180 & prefer a more upright seating position relatively close to the steering wheel, so I know what you mean. Sunvisor removal might help, but just note that a NSW forumite inquired about it in NSW, & RTA/ RMS (their Vicroads) advised it was not legal.

Btw, read the following earlier today & thought it might be of interest:

I have an NB8B driver's seat in my NA6. Heaps better than the standard seat IMO. It's also had a bit of a foamectomy (search for it on miata.net etc).

I've got NB8B seats in mine. I've done a few 10 hour trips in them, no problems. Watch out if you're tall though. They sit an inch or so higher than the old NA ones and you can find yourself peering through the very top of the windscreen or else reclining them so much to get your head down that you run out of foot room instead.
