Apparently Shayne Melton was running in the excels at QR over the weekend in a borrowed car, he normally runs a blue turbo Gemini in the Outlaws group with Callum. He won a race on Sunday in the rain. Damn good effort to go from never having dríven an Excel on track to winning a race against a field of 24.

Maybe a bit like Jake Camilleri stepping into Garry Buchanan's in a one hour last year at QR and taking it from the back of the field to 8th in the FIRST lap!! [so I heard!] But then Jake CAN drive!!

After the Production Sports Car Racing of Queensland meeting on Tuesday night looks like
there is no reason that MX5ers who want to race now have any excuses not to run.
PSCRAQ is willing to allow non-complying cars to try racing with existing racers to help you out
with a buddy system to be used at race meetings.This is to make you more comfortable with what goes on and what to do at a race meeting
They will also help those who want to build a car with advise on what has to be done and who to talk to.
This will only apply for a while then if you want to continue then your car will have to comply with 2B or 2F regs.

This is a great effort by the club and hopefully some will take advantage of this offer to try out racing.

Yes, the Corvettes, Lotus and other quickes will be there, BUT they were there when Crewmans, Boags,RWF and myself started and I guess
as we're not dead then we managed to race with them without being hit or run off the track.

So lets not turn this into an excuse fest but use it for what it is and get out there and try racing.

My only misgiving is I wouldn't like to see Lakeside as your first race meeting, but that's a personal thing.

BTW, this doesn't just apply to MX5s but all eligible cars

Still no power to weight ratio Rules?
Rules which include cutting your windscreen off your car?
If it a nb model car you can run a turbo?
Still Honda supercharge lotus super cars?
Or vetts with 7 speeds and 600 hp?
Still GT cars?
BP motors with $20k spent on them with over 200hp
No thanks.
Think I'm going to wait for the mordern sports cars, fingers crossed, they will be running in QLD next year. If not I'm going to be happy not doing real racing!

Terry presumably you aren't eligible for a win/place in the race, or is there a new class created for these non-compliant cars? Good to see some dispensations being made.

And Modern Sports cars run to CAMS 2B and 2F rules, so you still need to comply anyway and you will still be racing against other MX5's with $10k 220hp motors, the only difference is no Honda Supercharged Loti, though there are a couple of Loti up here that play and I think are eligible for modern sports, and no GT cars.

May as well come and play with Prod Sports, take advantage of the offer of having a run for a few meetings until you can get any eligibility problems sorted and then race for the pieces of plastic that Prod Sports offers.

Actually you can not have a 220 HP motor in a MX5 because of the power to weight. For a NA the max power is about 190 HP after that it would not be eligible for the new series.

That is not the case. You just move up a class in exactly the same way you do in Prod Sports. The rules are almost identical to Prod Sports with the exception of the eligibility list.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is next year, some cashed up bloke can turn up, in his SLS AMG GT spec supercar, in the same race as me in my 1597cc na with a hundred hp.
One thing is its not fun been lapped by a car with that much HP. That is the rules you guys run under.
It's not to say its right or wrong. It's the reason that stops me from running with PSCRAQ, I run a 1.05 ish around QR, I'm a good 2 or so seconds off the next bloke, even if there was cars running at my speed about 7-8 laps in I will start to get lapped by the quicker cars, which is not fun, because of the speed differenc, plus I find it unsafe and I lose a lap of the race.

MSC will take the really fast car/supercars out of the race, I don't want to run at the front, I'm more happy running at the back, just don't want to be run up the bacside by a car that is 100-150 kms quicker in a straight line on the back straight at qr.

It's just my opinion and how I feel about it

"FAST ... RELIABLE ... CHEAP" pick any two.

As one of the 200 ish bhp MX5 even they get lapped.

I think you need to manage your expectations 100 bhp even 200 bhp
makes you a back marker in modern mixed racing.

If you want more speed either find some more money or slower racing field.

We did a mixed race with the Hyundai Excels and I had to come to
virtuall a complete stop at Turn 10 @ Wakefield to avoid a spinner then still
managed to overtake 3 of them on the straight that same lap they are glacially slow.

However isn't there a max kg/hp of 5:1? Once you exceed this the vehicle does not qualify. Hence the red book weight of a MX5 NA6 at 5:1 equates to 190 HP (approx).

I'm happy to be wrong on this!

That is the red book eligibility requirements... you are still entitled to modify the cars in compliance with 2B/2F regs and if they think you are too fast you just keep getting bumped up classes... therefore the car is only ineligible if the redbook PWR is under 5:1 rolling out of the dealership prior to mods.
