"Dollar focus over performance expectation will always provide you with the product that you want"
Still trying to figure this out Greg.... The "product that you want" being the whole objective, right?

Re: Battery Recommendations
Great thread this one, thanks guys!
I'll be looking to replace mine in the short term, so am watching this with interest, although the number of opinions seems to vary with the number of batteries!

It's simple, the product that YOU want is the one that doesn't cost $330.00.
Greg.
No matter which way you go, if you are not using the car on a daily basis, invest in a trickle charger.
When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?

Re: Battery Recommendations
Maybe I need to clarify....if I need to pay $330 for a correct battery I will, but I consider this a high price.
If I can find an adequate substitute battery for less (and it's Aussie made) I'll go that way.
Hope to have the answer soon......

Re: Battery Recommendations
Sorry Silvia,
Does your note re; the vent pipe suggest that the other batteries that you have researched were not equipped with one? some years ago I looked at an NA for the daughter of a friend and was suprised that the battery was still in place, the base of the battery enclosure had corroded away due to the lack of venting.
Greg.
P.S. The Mania battery would seem a good entry level purchase.

Re: Battery Recommendations
I'm definitely looking only at vented ones .
The vents are for gasses though, so corroded floor would indicate a non AGM (i.e.liquid inside) battery was used. Corrosion is to the general area of boot if gasses are responsible, even resulting in potential explosion.
The Federal for example is vented and fits the existing breather pipes in boot.

Re: Battery Recommendations
Why is so hard to get to a simple conclusion. $330 is not expensive if the battery last for 10 years- it really is not hard to do the sums and also consider that the lead acid battery you buy goes up in price - you would likely buy 3 to 1. The $130 batt is going to be more in year 4 and more again in year 7. A Panasonic is a better battery and its suitable for the NB- ie vented and safer. Standard batteries ie different brands at equivalent prices are all going to be much the same. If you are not planning on keeping the car then throw a cheapy in.

This is rated 35 AH CCA figure 340 and has low terminals but adaptors ok. Paul at
Absorbedpower says it would be fine for the job and costs $100 picked up.
Measurements are very close to the Stock Panasonic I have - H 170 L 240 W140
Absorbedpower H 159 L195 W130
Buy it - that's is the best deal I've heard of full stop!
GP bought one of those 3 years ago & was very happy with it:

Silvia,
Whilst I acknowledge the possibility of explosion, gases do condensate, particularly in confined spaces and even in drainage tubes.

Re: Battery Recommendations
I'm no expert on batteries, but it seems to me that if a battery was sealed except for vents, and those vent pipes open to outside the car ,then there is only gas inside the battery and inside the vent hose. Neither should cause corrosion or potential for explosion i.e. no gasses released into the boot.
Another candidate has come up - The Superstart SS43 CCA 400 - right size and vented correctly. $140 locally and at Mania.

Re: Battery Recommendations
Been a few weeks now but the recent battery question reminded me.
I also purchased an AC Delco 22NF-330D for $105 (Challenge Batteries in Osborne Park, Perth).
Fits and has a vent hole - happy customer here.

I did buy a cheap trickle charger from Jaycar and now, almost a year on, original battery now 12 yrs old and doing fine.
