Hi, I have a nice standard 2002 NB 6 speed .
The clutch is pretty heavy to press, which happens when they wear,
so I will be removing the gearbox to fit a new clutch.
Like many other 6 speed owners mine crunches into second and third and
the syncros are worn.
I have downloaded the repair manual and want to replace the syncros when I
do my clutch.
Can anyone tell me where to get Aisin 6 speed gearbox parts from in Australia.
I have not gone to mazda yet as I thought an aftermarket supplier may be better
value.
Thanks.
Syncro rings for NB 6 speed.

Re: Syncro rings for NB 6 speed.
Do you have any experience with gearbox rebuilds? My understanding (possibly wrong) is that you have to know what your doing and have reasonable tooling to get all the preloads and fits Right?

Hi sailaholic,
Thanks for your comments, I am a retired motor mechanic, I did not specialise
in gearbox overhauls but have overhauled many automatic and manual transmissions.
I have been out of the trade for a long time but still have access to presses and pullers etc.
The mazda gearbox repair manual is one of the best I have seen and I am sure any keen
mx-5 owner could strip and rebuild one ( take it slowly , make some tools as required ) the use
of a lathe would be handy.
The parts for these gearboxes are expensive and seem to be hard to get so that's the reason
I am asking if anybody has bought parts before.
Thanks.

Re: Syncro rings for NB 6 speed.
There was a topic here a little while ago about CBC Bearings having a listing for all the gearbox bearings. viewtopic.php?f=29&t=57883&hilit=cbc+bearings
Unlikely that they'll have the rings too but at least the bearings are a start and maybe they'll know someone else who has the rings?

I rebuilt my 6 speed box at the start of the year.
MX5 Mania can get the syncro rings etc. They got me a new 4th gear syncro ring. They were reasonably priced as well.

You would buy spare parts from the usual sources. Benchmark it from Mazda. Insofar as quality is concerned the guys in the bearing industry know the better makers from the poor quality ones. One certainly would not want to put in poor quality items in a gearbox to see them fail just down the track.
