What are the best 15" road Tyres??

I'm in Melbourne too and as was suggested to me, the Bridgestone 4 for 3 special on till the end of May 2013 is hard to beat.
Just depends on whether they have stock.
I was able to get RE002's last week with the deal - but at the undiscounted price - so $149 x 3 instead of $135 x3.

Ah ic, is that the price for 15"? But I guess if it's a wee bit more exp, still cheaper than K-Mart.
I think K-Mart is selling the RE002 for $148 per tyre (no special). With all this rain coming along, should get the rubber changed.

Yes 15's.
So the price I got was $149 each x 3 = $447 for 4 tyres or around $112 each.
If I had waited till the shipment came in at the end of the month I could have got them at the discounted $135 each x 3 for 4 tyres being $101 each - if I paid for them in advance.
That was from the Ferntree Gully Bridgestone.
I ended up going to Kilsyth Bridgestone instead - they had old stock on the shelf - but he wouldn't discount it and give me the 4 for 3 deal.
And I was in a hurry.

Assuming it doesn't, seems like I am best going with the KU31's at $100 each.

Do they do 4 for 3 deal on the MY02? Just looking at the website, doesn't seem like it cover those tyres.
Just looking at alternatives if I could save a buck or two since the ride normally goes on leisurely cruise and may be on track the odd occassion.
Will prolly call the Bridgestone nearby (Oakleigh) to see what they have in store..

All I can say is that at the Ferntree Gully Bridgestone they were prepared to offer me on RE002's both the discounted price of $135 and the 3 for 4 deal if they could get discounted stock from Bridgestone.
So I don't think the 4 for 3 deal costs the dealer anything - I'd say they are fully subsidised for that.
So FT Gully offered me MY02's at $99 each which they said was not discounted - but I think now they were offering them at the 3 for 4 deal - so $297 for 4 tyres.
It's just that I couldn't find enough positive feedback about the MY02's on the forum - so I paid the premium for the RE002's.
Who knows, if you ring enough places you may get the discount and the deal - I get the impression that some of the people I spoke to might have been as confused as me

No love in this thread for the Dunlop Star Spec? I prefer them to the Ku36.

I think they are in a different class.

At least double the price of the RE002s and wears out twice as fast (<20,000kms).

Of course, they are significantly better too in terms of performance... but I don't know whether you need that kind of performance for road use and with NA power.

In the wet I can drive at WOT with Achilles 123's if I'm smooth enough in my NA6.
I expect <20,000km out of them but they're so cheap I don't even bother swapping them off between track days.
Unless I was doing huge k's or had more money than sense I wouldn't use anything else.

This is what I found contacting a few places around melb for tyres:

Re002: Roughly 110 a corner
Federal Rsr: 150 a corner
Star Spec Z1: 185 a corner

I haven't looked into the Kuhmo's though... I was also told you could pick up 123's for about 90-100 a corner which is a lot better than the atr sports.

I actually went with the Rsr as I have a few track days coming up.

Has anyone tried Archilles ATR Sport? At $78 each they are a budget buy and have heard and read they are not too bad. But haven't anyone who has tried them make a comment. Anyone....?

I have them in 225/45/17 on my 200SX, for the dollars have been a good road tyre. Dry grip is good, and wet grip is pretty good if I'm gentle with the throttle. If I stand on the loud pedal on a wet road I will get wheelspin in 1st and 2nd as the turbo comes on boost, otherwise they are fine.

For general road use I would buy them if on a tight budget, there are better tyres but they are more.

Just bitten the bullet and I'm sitting down at Bob Jane T Mart to change my tyres. Initially didn't want to change them but after ALMOST fish tailing on a wet road on a free left turn with slight decline near Nunawading at a snail speed of 40km/h (and the giving the missus a mighty shock) I decided I'd better not take any risks. Good thing there were no other cars around me. Actually the 4 for 3 promo ended yesterday, but they still gave me anyway on the RE002. A little more expensive $198 per tyre (total $594) but it was the last 4 they had in Victoria, had no choice if I didn't want an earful.

I guess it's only $$, could've been a very different Saturday

Shuey, good to hear that you're getting new decent tyres - you should find an all around improvement. Just make sure you also get a good four wheel alignment as it can make a big difference. The first wheel alignment after new tyres on my first MX5 was by one of the major tyre sellers who sold me the tyres. They were conservative & it would only do it to what they said were factory specs. The alignment was rubbish - where the car previously inspired confidence, it didn't following the alignment. And it wasn't the tyres as I went from the original Mazda supplied Bridgestone on the NA6 to an equivalent spec Bridgestone Potenza. Btw, it wasn't at a Bridgestone tyre centre.
