More important things right now though. Center caps complete! Bugger was that the Mazdaspeed centers were domed upwards. Had to get some 3M tape and get inventive and gave up on the colour match;










Pics show waaaay more difference on the colour match than in real life. Overall, 95% happy with the results

I know! Trying to get the caps to line up with the Enkei label top,bottom whilst on the car is surprisingly difficult! Has been fixed now on the front however. I hope your not saying the MS badge isn't centred on the cap because I can't see it.

Well, another not so fun update.

Was going to take the car across for a local run through the hills. Drove ~ 80 miles to get to the meeting point and literally as I arrive at the meeting point the clutch take up point goes rite to the top of the pedal . First planned drive to give her a good run since I bought her

Driving back from CT through NY city was good fun with a clutch that the take up point was slowly getting higher on the pedal and the slip getting worse. Figured it would be the slave cylinder so grabbed a new one on the way home, swapped it out and.......not fixed.

Well lets get onto Amazon and order a master cylinder. Swapped that in.....still slipping. Had NO prior warning that the clutch was on it's way out. I think it's something in the pressure plate or clutch disc. Either way it's going to be a box out job. This has left me with no car and riding the pushie to work each day. I forgot how much I like riding! Only positive to come from this is that now the planned engine rebuild has come forward to NOW! I had no plans to drop the box to do the clutch, only to have to pull the engine to swap with the rebuilt one in a couple of months time.

Anyhow, the CF guards arrived in a MASSIVE box at work. Good thing I had Themissus car to get 'em home that day.

Below are just the trial fitting of the guards. Fit seems to be quite OK, finish of them is pretty average but what's to be expected from $500 CF guards? Oh yeah, the novelty has already warn off so off to the body shop for a full respray once the new engine is in there. Bear in mind that there is nothing attching them to the car in the pics below. Just making sure it actually fits! The weather's turned to custard so gave up after drilling the pilot holes.

I should add that the CF guards ARE about half the weight of the OEM stuff. I'd say I've dropped the weight by ~ 0.5kg a side . I will get 'em on the scales when doing the other side

completely OT but the Cicadas are out in force this year. Apparently the only come out every 17 years around here!!

The ride to work the roads look like a carpet of dead cicadas





Buuuuuut, back On Topic - 2013 VW Golf R VS ASE05 2 on highway run to CT before the clutch died........RIP VW R 4th gear roll @ ~ 55MPH had him by at least 5 car lengths by the time we both backed off. Whoop, whoop!!

When the locusts were in country Victoria a couple of years ago I had the get a front grill. Oddly enough I never had to clean it the birds know how to pick the dead locust out of the grill at every country petrol station...

They do and I have them, just never a fan of 'em.

So excited where the USD is now, finally not loosing money every time we send cash home.

Not much progress so far. Pulled the engine and box out a few weeks ago and then went to Vegas for 2 weeks. Block has been with machinist for coming up to 4 weeks. Had to give him a reminder that I still need to get it so I can get my car on the road.

Hope to have the rods, pistons, valves and springs arrive this week so I can get them down to him to assemble the bottom end and do the head work. Then back here for the rest of the assembly.

Just got back from the dropping the parts. Damn, sometimes I enjoy the US. Down and back on the 78, trip computer says average speed of 80 MPH Best part is, you're hardly overtaking anyone at that speed. 280 mile return trip.

Sounds like the rods, pistons and head gear may be completed by Friday! Another 280 mile return trip.

Found some really nice lil' pubs to on the way. I find it odd that a pub in bumfook no where can have mad food and a great range of beers that my local struggles to match

Can't wait to be able to actually run more than 13 or so PSI. Have upgraded valve gear and the boundary engineering oil pump along with the 949 racing supermiata damper should allow safely the 8K RPM I've already been using on the stock engine but safely.

Hydra upgraded to 2.7 along with 700cc injectors. There's a petrol station near themissus office that sells E85. Tempted to get larger injectors and run that to once she's all up and running.

How hard is it to run a flex fuel sensor on the Hydra so the tune adjusts for the octane?

2.7 version is set up and ready to rumble. Just need some other stuff to make it all work. Haven't looked into it too much as 1. Need to get the car running 1st. 2. It's only available at one place within a reasonable distance so I'm not too concerned just yet. 3. It's another $1K at least to get that up and running.

The wallet has taken a beating with the rebuild as it is so I need to let themissus relax before I go spending more on this lil' project.
