For me it would need to pass the 95db i think it is for Lakeside and QR limits.
But more importantly the drone test.
I have dríven/ridden in an SE with the 3" SS Corksport system and it droned like a bitch at cruise, and sounded like a truck at idle.
I wouldnt be able to handle that as a DD

I would agree with the most important aspect being legal issues and it coming under the 90db limit. Second would be no drone and no rasp. Goodluck haha

SPL meters are on eBay for $40-50.

Might be worth the investment.

Interesting point...

One thing for sure is that it would depend on each state and how they test.

As example, I've got a cat delete pipe installed, and at idle it isn't any difference, up to 60% load it is barely much of an increase to the audible noise, but above 60% load it goes crazy loud and roars. So if the test was WOT I'd fail. If it was idle and steady drive by, I'd pass.

There is certaintly no accounting for taste, to be honest I think its a great idea to buy a SPL meter and then at least I can give 100% accurate descriptions of volume

I can't think of the name, but there is a cool little muffler shop down on the corner kind of near the Georgetown shops - I've had plenty of checks done there, they are stand up guys and fairly cheap on tests - The RTA etc accept their tests too, so you know they do them at the correct angles. RPM etc.

I'd go speak to them and learn about the tests for NSW (or even an engineer) then go buy a nice db metre to offer tests or db levels to customers.

You could also look at selling a basic performance system that was louder with a removable/re-installable section for street use.

For the simplicity of an off the shelf though, I'd make it as legal or close to as possible. Anyone chasing outright power can choose a custom system right?

I have one on my android. unfortunately the limit is about 90dB.
great for other low volume stuff but if it goes over the limit of the phones hardware it will just show 90 so you cant tell if its 91 or 105.
