You know you can't do that, Russell. Anyone who claimed a payback on just one mod is then wide open to questions about a cost/benefit analysis and payback period on every other mod. Even mentioning that the fuel consumption is so much better after the ECU invites a query about how much fuel were you using before the ECU. Relationships can be clouded by too much detail.rascal wrote:Is that how you justify it to the missus?? Honestly honey, I'm saving us money by getting an ECU...

Re: Fuel consumption on the track?
From brimmed to the top to spluttering at the fish-hook I managed 66 laps at wakefield in the 300 a few years ago. That was 0.57 litres per lap assuming I got exactly 40 litres in it. Mine made 90kw...though I'd have to go dig out that dyno sheet to see what my AFR's are like.

That was directed at Charlie Brown. Although it also applies to manga blue......'need to know basis' approach works best for me. And I definitely do not need her to know.mazmad wrote:Sounds about right. Thanks.

I'm around 36l/100km on track - NB8C motor running on e85 (no boost). Lines up with most people's ~25-28l/100km on 98.

Re: Fuel consumption on the track?
stb I have been pondering my fuel supply since I'm going to run E85 and if a standard NA will have enough to do a 1 hour with no refueling. My plan is now to swap the NA6 for a NA8 tank and put a 5 ltr surge tank in the boot.

Re: Fuel consumption on the track?
I've done the sums for my NB8A from the Track Day last Monday at Queensland Raceway
Total from 'fill to fill' = 39.3 Litres for 387km
Track kilometres = 109
Road Kimometres = 279
Based on an average for 'road kilometres' of 7.5L/100km it calculates at:
20.9 litres for 279km = 7.5L/100k
18.4 litres for 109km = 16.88L/100km

Re: Fuel consumption on the track?
get a 10L surge tank if you are allowed to run that bigger size.Magpie wrote:stb I have been pondering my fuel supply since I'm going to run E85 and if a standard NA will have enough to do a 1 hour with no refueling. E85 drinks 33% faster then regular fuel.
track use is 3 times the fuel you use on road use, rough guide. so about 24-27L/100km for regular fuel, so add 33% for E85 = 32-36L/100km. goes in line with an earlier post.
so every 5L you can gain, gives you 14km (on E85) track usage. so 5 to 7 laps extra at most tracks roughly.

Re: Fuel consumption on the track?
Having done some long runs recently for modern regularity, an hour is probably possible with NA8 tank. I was using ~2/3 of a tank in ~45 minutes of running. Other MX5s were running 1.5 hour stints without refueling, so in theory at least 1 hour should be possible on e85.
