Are you serious?

Yep, if you are dawdling along and hold me up through turn 2 I will try to pass on driver's right on the short straight to turn 3 on the out lap so I can get good run. With not much straight line poke I make all my time through the corners and find it incredibly frustrating when I am trying to carry as much speed as possible to get my lap times.

...or, if you don't wanna be so concerning to potential green drivers, you could just hang back out of the pit lane, give plenty of space, and you won't need to... I guess do whatever you feel causes less issues and is safer for a track sprint day. :p

Generally I leave a good 5 second gap, and start accelerating as I enter the derestricted area, I sometimes catch up those who dawdle around, most times I don't catch anyone on the first lap , and if we are seeded right generally on any of the laps, but on the odd occasion I do and try to get around them as quickly and as safely as possible so as not stuff up my laps.

First run of the day not so much a problem as we don't know how quick the non regular cars are, but for the second and subsequent runs we all should be able to get in a line with the group fastest car at the front of the line and slowest car for the group at the back.

And yes, quite often I have been the group back marker and would line up at the rear of the pack to stay out of the way.

Cal

White NA with hardtop, was first car out Group 1 each run - Lakeside 58's I think, maybe Tim can confirm

That would be me, white NA 1.8 turbo. That was my first time to QR since about last August? last year and first time with a bit more poke. I finally found the limit of my brakes when I pulled into the pits after the first run to find smoke billowing out of the front wheels :D Unfortunately the pads ran down dramatically faster than usual at the elevated temps and I hit the backing plates after the first run on the sprint so I only got the 1 crack at that, hence why the gap between the 2 times was not much. Thankfully even though they were struggling they were still pulling me up though! And yes that's right Roger I just managed to crack into 58s with a 58.9 last time out at LS.

Cheers,

Tim

Thanks for the clarification Tim, I'm sure Cal will appreciate that :)

Brakes? who needs brakes at MY speeds? Well, I do use them a touch thru 1, a little dab thru 2, maybe harder into 3 then harder still into 6, although some smart butt is likely to saay I use them halfway down the main straight!!

This is the first time I've had to brake heavily for turn 1! I just had a look through the datalogs, calculating the road speed from the engine revs and tyre diameters etc, the quickest I saw down the straight was about 210, most of the time it was just a touch over 200! No wonder my my brakes were crying out for help :D

Cheers,

Tim

Lucky to nudge 150-155kmh here... Curious, what kind of speed does a car like yours maintain through T1? I know a couple of Time Attack cars that take it at 160kmh, and they're not exactly standard cars. 130kmh for a stock MX5 seems good, must be pretty damn high on good tyres and proper suspension?

Not sure about mid corner, I'll have to get the phone mount so I can get the GPS app going next time but I would suspect only about maybe 140 or so at the apex, you get a little from the stickier tyres but without aero I don't think you don't gain a huge amount.

That's not Paul Chapman's old car is it?

No I have had it for several years and slowly done bits and pieces along the way.

Fair enough. I must have a closer look at it next track day.

I often see Paul's 'old' car at Lakeside doing either 'Track Attack' or 'Time Attack', still VERY quick!
