Aswell as info in Club web site - generally if the car is Trailered in, and/or not road registered it is considered 'Race'

Not sure I understand the Race category .... Really, being trailered in doesn't account for much, and being street registered either. I could point out registered/dríven cars that are just as modified as the cars being trailered and non registered... I guess the assumption is that Race means impossible to be registrable, whereas in reality, quite a few folks drive cars that would struggle to meet road worthy legal laws and are probably taking risks by doing so. Maybe it's the "gutted" to reduce weight with full cams roll bars etc. The performance addons seem to be fairly equal if you consider what Charlie was doing with his "street" hard core MX5. Was that in the Race category?

Charlie's was not race as it was road registered and ran road tyres. From memory it was in the Supercharged-Turbo class. I still have to check but soon mine will be in the NA 1.8 modified or the NB modified. It is a NA6 body, NB block, NA8 head, however it is road registered so it will not be in the race class.

Unfortunately I didn't turn my gopro off between sessions, so it died at the start of the fourth session :( Missed all my quicker laps. Still, for my first ever track day, I reckon 1:11.6 wasn't bad. Other than turning in too early at T2 and T4 on this clip, any suggestions on gears? I do know I shouldn't be using third through T2, but the dipper I'm not sure on. I've been told 3rd for the whole dipper, but it seems like it's faster exiting if you take it in second, as long as you can get the shift to third done before the flick into the left hander. My fastest lap was using 4th through T2, and remaining in 3rd for T4 and the final turn onto the straight. I don't seem to be able to maintain enough speed to keep it in third through the final turn without losing too many RPM, so not sure on that one either.

My 2c Turning in TOO early on 3/4/5
compare it to my line in my vid above
I was trying to follow a line drawn by Doug Chapel on my coaching run.
Your early turn in particular at 3/4/5 is costing you a lot.
And dont go through turn 6 one handed in second gear :D

GS

It's a very difficult to categorise various cars, to me, basically each class has 'M' modified or 'S' standard, and standard means exactly that, road tyres NO suspension mods or engine mods, effectively as it comes off the showroom floor

Anything 'modified; in any way regardless if under the bonnet is total standard fits into the 'M' Class - mine is total standard under the bonnet but has TEIN, Whitelines and street legal track tyres

Supercharged and Turbos have their own class

It becomes even more difficult when someone has an actual race car that is legally registered. I think a Class called 'Super Modified' for cars like Charlie's old red NA could solve it, but to me it's about having fun! I got the sheep but I'd never win the ranch, so I just have to live with breeding lamb cutlets in the back yard!!

Nice spin yesterday in #3 on the Clubman, almost happened in 'slow motion' and gave me time to take evasive action!! Funny, that lap I calculated was my second fastest on the Clubman for the day!! :(

Charlie was not an MX5 Club of Qld member - so did not score a point in the category.
The categories are on an honesty system to a certain extent,(re Mod or Std) and at the Club CompSec's discretion - and no correspondence will be entered into. It is not sheep stations - if you want to argue categories, stick your hand up to not drive at track days and volunteer to run them. 'Race' cars are "generally" if they are non road registered and have huge wings flares and lots of modds and are impractical for Mum to take to Woolies.(unless your mum is Michèle Mouton or Sabine Schmitz)

Speaking of Race cars - i was pretty pissed getting passed and pushed wide right on the apex of turn 6 by a certain f&^*^ing hero in that black race car. Dipstick can bugger off and not attend club days i reckon if he wants to 'race' everyone. Which is strictly mentioned every driver briefing. We want to drive our cars home thanks.

Don't get me wrong, not debating, just trying to understand the categorisation and Race seems to be the most vague. I'm not in it (yet) so really don't care, but keen to understand just in case I decide to trailer my car (for convenience) and then I might care.

On the topic of behaviour ... Perhaps Mark (compsec) could spend more time outlining the behaviours of drivers, clearly state how to be courteous when someone right up you in the bends should be allowed to pass in the straights, no passing on bends and explain that any offenders will be immediately warned and then asked to leave the track. Hard to police, but worth mentioning perhaps?

Now I'm curious because I plan to trailer my road registered car in at times because my family likes to come to the track days. Anyway I'll ask the comp sec of the club what class the car will be in.

The current class rules/definitions are here http://www.mx5clubqld.com.au/?page_id=35, however no definition of what constitutes a 'race car'. My guess a race car is something that is not road registered. Anyway as was mentioned it is not as if the racing is for sheep stations.

It's mentioned every time in Driver's Briefing - obviously a few incidents yesterday, but to me, and as stated at 'DB' I simply stay my line and point them thru - Danny came up damn fast down the main straight in the NC, stayed back thru 1 and I then pointed him thru and stayed wide between 1-2 and he was GONE!!

I do know quite a few do NOT watch their mirrors, they are concentrating on what's ahead - Not that I get to pass many!!

'Magpie' if it's naturally aspirated, road registered and has suspension, track tyres etc it will be NAM 16 or NAM 18, dependent on whether you have a 1600 or 1800 engine

No, sheep are too expensive right now, I think a lamb cutlet is about $43.99 for ONE!!! Cattle up there currently and unfortunately worth nothing

All good!! My luck if I won it would either be a pig sty or a chook yard with an old rooster so no eggs!!

In particular on that last point, that was the only lap where I did that, but it was the fastest of my laps that I managed to record. Gopro battery died, so I missed my faster laps later on. Would I be right in thinking 4th through T2, 3rd through dipper, and 3rd through T6?

I only managed two laps for the day due to mechanical issues, however one of them was a 65, can't really complain!
