Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
From what i have seen of exhaust breakages on turbo cars the welds on the hangers don't break, the stainless pipe near the hangers tend to crack, I would assume due to it being a more rigid point in the system that tends to give as the stainless begins to work under high temps. Something to think about with having a lot of reinforcement fixed to the system. It's probably only relevant to track cars though with continuous high temps through the exhaust.

That's one of the reasons I chose Dann to build my manifold+exhaust despite him being a bloody long way away from Brisbane. I'd followed his build thread and saw that his fabrication skills were increasing dramatically and that he took a lot of pride in his work.
I think this is one of the best 3" exhausts you will find on any MX5 in this country, including any factory produced one (eg. Corksport/FM). The custom EFR6258 low-mount manifold certainly allows the exhaust to flow better than typical GT2560 solutions from FM or BEGI and I think most people would agree that Dann's done a brilliant job on the manifold given the space restrictions and the fact that I wanted to keep the A/C (I didn't mind losing the P/S but he managed to keep that too).
It's almost a pity to hide the manifold under the OEM heatshield but it certainly makes the car look like a stock SE which is always a big PLUS!
Don't worry about dying, worry about not living!

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Thanks for the kind words guys.
getting the rear section jig together.
Cutting this circle out
Pipe fits nicely this will locate the exhaust exit (tip)
The bit on top detatches via welded in bolts and locates these hangers, it will be fitted last and the hangers will be built with it.
I know, I know, its ugly and complicated, its actually really hard to figure out how you can guarantee everything gets held the same way next time.
All learning here.

The important thing is your exhaust is a work of art. Great work Dann.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread

I'd be happy with just one but money is too tight right now to even ask how much.

Airfares might be cost prohibitive hope your lawnmower is turbo'd.

Look Dave, do you want an exhaust or not.
Yes it has a gt35r. It's pretty laggy and comes on like a light switch of course by that point you have run out of rpm, but being an Se owner you would be used to that.

I'm gonna be slow no matter how much power I have, i'd like to do it once and do it properly but in reality i'll aim to do it in 3 stages.
- Simple mods to my SE and get my head around an ECU, it really needs an intake!
- Manifold/Turbo (BW perhaps)/Dump/Exhaust on stock motor
- Built motor
Can't really spend any money on the SE until I sell the 2 cars I promised to sell when I bought it and can't really spend money on anything until my wife finds another job and my contract is due to finish at the end of June.
Sorry didn't wanna hijack your build thread.

That's cool it's a discussion forum.
Sounds like you have the exact right idea.
One of our younger members here has been on the phone to me about running an Se n/a on their p:s for 6 months while we sort out s good T28 setup for it.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Here we go.
Just needs a flex, a brace and a cat.
Needs paint but its done.
Here is the last hanger guide.
Finished rear section.
Again.
Ill let the pictures say the rest, still needs a cat and flex and a gearbox brace on the DP.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Heres a really good question I had via PM.
So, firstly thanks for asking, very very good question (bit of a light bulb moment for me honestly).
Because I dabble in bits and pieces that are 99% of the time custom made for a person, we can always work together to make sure that I understand EXACTLY what people want, I think this is really key, and probably a big part of why just about everyone is really really happy with what I build them.
However its all new to me, that is building jigs and trying to be able to supply some off the shelf type bits at great prices and with the same build quality as before.
So I have designed a system for a gentleman which you can see in the above pics and decided its a great setup for 90% of SE owners, because it allows a HUGE upgrade over stock, but because all of the flex and wideband etc is contained in the midpipe they can keep it and simply change dump pipe when its time to go for a T28/3071/EFR series turbo, but also comes in at a good price, will make fantastic gains on the stock setup and will be plenty quiet enough for daily duties.
Being a pretty serious bit of kit for a 1.8L it will support just about any power levels anyone would ever want to upgrade to in the future (ie 400hp+ easily).
It seemed like the right system to build a jig from.
But now, I have the question about absolute 100% legality. Its already stock configuration, OEM quality magnaflow high flow cat and tucked well away, but will it pass a sound check 100%, every time..
Thats a question I really cannot answer...
I know that it will -definately- be quiet enough for the VAST majority of enthusiasts, I know it will pass the girlfriend test, but will it clear the sound check with ease... That I do not know.
So the question is out there, I suppose I should extend it to everyone who owns an SE, and everyone who DD's an MX5 who has an aftermarket system, and those thinking about one.
As usual, Im all ears, and Im looking for people to criticize in every way that occurs to them, with the main question being, does a system for a road car have to pass the girlfriend/wife/mother test only, or does it need to be 100% volume test legal?
Thanks to everyone who read all that, and in advance to the repliers

How much louder compared to stock? Do you plan to measure the DB loudness so I can be sure it is under legal limit?
cheers
