OK, so I did my due diligence today and have decided on the hans sport II from demon tweeks.
I am awaiting the confirmation email for final price and payment details, it should end up $550 to my door in 5-7 days for the HANS device and a set of early posts to suit my helmet.
All going well I should have it early next week.
For anyone else looking at this option, a few traps for young players:
There are two post types, one for SA2005 and SA2000 rated helmets and a second type for the SAH2010 rated helmets. The big difference is that the SAH2010 helmets have a threaded nutsert ready for the later type posts.
Also, if you have an as1698 rated helmet, do a lot of research before using it with a HANS device, it may or maynot be suitable to be drilled. If in doubt upgrade to a SAH2010 helmet ready for the posts, there are plenty out there that won't brake the bank, for example, Revolution Racegear have a Bell Sport for under $600, which is what I would be getting if I couldn't use my current helmet, only because I find Bell helmets comfortable for my head shape.
From my research, most of the usual places on line are about the same price for equivalent models, eg check out Demon Tweeks, Nicky Grist and Murray Motorsport in the UK, or for local, Autosport in adelaide have some good package deals.

Re: HANS Device - group buy
Well that was quick, ordered a HANS Sport II with FIA 2002 spec posts on the 16th and lobbed at my door at 7:30 this morning, total price $576.
Now the fun part, drilling my helmet for the posts, goes against everything I have learnt regarding helmets, but will be good, just measure twenty eight times to be sure so I only drill two holes, in the right spot......
Now to get my car built so I can use the HANS device.

Why are you drilling the helmet?

Re: HANS Device - group buy
Because my helmet is a SA2000 spec helmet and doesn't have the pre fitted inserts that SAH2010 helmets have for HANS posts.

I have a Sa2010 helmet and managed to sweet talk Dean from Revolution Racegear - who I have bought a stack of gear from including the helmet - to fitting the posts when they arrive from OS.

Good price, but just remember you also need to get posts for your helmet. And the correct ones depending on what helmet spec you have, SA or SAH, SAH has the inserts already SA needs holes drilled to install posts.
Anyone in Brisbane going to the track day I will have my HANS II device with me (if I remember) if anyone wants to see how it all works and fits remind me and I will make sure I bring it.

I just dropped my helemt off to them so that they can make sure that the posts that they order are correct. Best way to check is to see if your helmet has any small plastic plugs in where the HANS posts would go. If you have the plugs then good the only question is if under the plug is a thread or is it just a hole (mine had just a hole). If no plugs then it needs to be determined if holes can be drilled etc (as said by MAttR).

Would be worth passing this on to Mike Hicks. Some mx5 club track'ers dont frequent this forum (strange, no?)
