NB Roof recommendations
Hi Guys,
After 10+ years and 200,000km, the roof on my 5 has understandably been up and down more often than a cheap hooker, and has now developed a hole on the drivers side.
What replacement roofs have you used and recommend?
Can I fit this myself? or do I have to get a dealer to do it for me?
Thanks in advance

Re: NB Roof recommendations
Welcome back! Its been a long time you were here last, but I guess the cheap hookers explain it all!
Perhaps it may help if you could post some pictures of the roof?
As for the self fitting, I guess it's just a matter of how comfortable you feel with a tool in your hand.

Re: NB Roof recommendations
Thanks, Its good to be back, and to see the regular posters are still here.
Sorry no pic yet of the hole, its a relatively uninteresting hole about 1/2 cm2. I guess it could be patched at this stage but I'm not interested in the rat rod look that some of the the younger members seem to be embracing.
So back on topic, what roof do you recommend I get? And is there anything else I should replace at the same time?
Thanks in advance

Re: NB Roof recommendations
I replaced my roof approximately a year ago. I searched high and low for the right top at the right price. Robbins is the best brand on the market but also the most expensive. I ended up purchasing a canvas top from the states that also sold the Robbins brand. It came with a five year warranty just like the Robbins brand. The canvas tops also came in a range of colours and was great quality for the price. I had it installed by a professional which cost nearly as much as the top itself but we'll worth it. You will need to replace the rain rail as well. The overall cost was approximately $900 as far as I can remember. Pretty sure the online store was called E Z tops. Be carefully of buying cheap eBay tops as the sometimes don't fit we'll. I hope this helps.

1. A roof with no hole Shoot meanmx a PM or FB him. The robbins soft top could be the go.
Maybe we could do a dodgy day and fit it.

Re: NB Roof recommendations
out of curiosity, how large is the hole?
You could probably get it repaired fairly cheaply.
If you ask droo (owner of the original MIX-5) he can pass on his experiences with repairs.
Just an option until you decide what to do regarding a replacement top.

Re: NB Roof recommendations
The hole is currently about half a centimeter squared, and slowly getting larger as people close to me keep sticking their fingers into it and preceding to tell me that I have a hole. One hopes that they can find more interesting holes to examine.

I'm surprised you're suggesting having a roof at all, Wun. Aren't they pretty heavy?

Re: NB Roof recommendations
$205 plus $9 shipping for today only. It won't be the greatest roof in the world but it'll surely be up there with the cheapest?

Re: NB Roof recommendations
It has a plastic window. So that might put some people off. Still, a cheap top.

Re: NB Roof recommendations
Don't mind a placcy window. Had 2 of them. I just use a towel to stop the window creasing too much.

Re: NB Roof recommendations
The basic top, but very good price. Also looks like they have an outlet in Aust now (Bentleigh, Vic).
