Master cylinder line fracture Nc

Postby ansellpa » Tue May 07, 2013 11:01 pm

Just a heads up to those nc drivers who have fitted an engine brace that runs between the steel brake lines into the right side of the engine.

I must not have had suffient clearance between the brace and the lines and you guessed it,
The brace under load was pressing on one of the lines and cracked it.

This happened under brakes at lakeside going into carousel.
Very lucky to have washed off enough speed such that I just managed to keep it on track.
Pedal went to the floor and was certainly a scary moment

Do you have a photo that shows the brace fitted and where the interference point is?

Good to hear you washed off enough speed - brake pedal going straight to the floor without resistance can be a surprise. Not in an MX5, but a few years back had it happen on the road on the arvo before Easter with lots of other roads users around.

Ahh thanks for the pic.
I have the brace at home not fitted yet, I was worried by the lack of clearance.
Good to hear you dodged the bullet.

Yeah, I thought mine had a few mm, but there is obvioulsy a degree of movement and rubbing.

A bit like watching an episode of Air Crash Investigations, where the new part or the repair results ina catastophic failure down the track....

Maybe not all NC's are the same, I bought mine as a track car/ frankestien of JDM and ADM car , so some bits may have been moved.
Thought the warning was a valid one for all NC users.

Glad to hear it had no serious consequences, very nasty thing to happen indeed.

You could probably take some metal out of the brace with a grinder and then add rubber/pvc sheathing to prevent it reoccuring
