Just about to purcahse some new 195/50 15's.Have had a good run from Yoko SDrives ( 2 sets)but have had Jax try to convince me to put on Pirelli Cinturato P7 Asmmetrico's.

Has anyone tried them,i think they are a fairly new version.

Looking for alround grip and about 25000-30000 klms life . would consider Ku 36's except for wet weather performance

I got 35,000km from my KU 31's including half a dozen track days.
Never had trouble with grip in either wet or dry unless I was doing something silly at the time.
And can be had for around $100-$110 a corner.

sorry for hijacking the thread (as I didnt want to start a new one), current ride has 3 Toyo Proxes 4 (2009) and 1 Falken Ziex ZE-326 (2005). i'm thinking of changing that Falken as it's 7+ yo and I read it's a pretty lousy tyre. As there isn't any Tyre Power near where I am to get another Proxes 4, do you guys have any suggestions on an alternative? Size is 205/45/R16 on standard 16" NB8B

* - I used to have Yoko S-Drives on my previous ride, but don't want to be spending too much money changing it until the Proxes run thin.

Here's a thought, less grip = more fun, so get the sketchiest tires you can find* and save a bit of coin. That's what the 86/BRZ engineer's design philosophy was when they went with narrow tire widths.

I finally went with Michelin Pilot Sport 3 in 195/50x15 at $145 each.Great in the wet haven't really dríven hard on them yet but will post feedback when I do.
Noticably harder ride at the same pressure as my Yoko's so have dropped to 30 from 32 psi.Quiet and give good road feel.

Haha. I used to have three brands of rubber on the five before I got a set of RE001s. They came with the car, so don't look at me!

I have four bands on mine (what were they thinking?), and I have not heard of three of the brands. Was looking at the Bridgestone MY02 (185/60R14) as they are 195mm wide. Don't mind the RE001s but they are only 185mm wide.

Anyone tried the MY02's?

Hope it's OK to continue with this thread.

My question is - what are the "best" value for money tyres - taking into account tyre life?
No track work - I do like to drive hard round corners and roundabouts though.
Only got my (first) low mileage, one owner, stock standard NB a while back.
Existing tyres are Falcen Ziex ZE-326 195/50R15 - have got great tread but are rock hard and cracking - it's like an ice skate in the rear in the wet - apparently they were never great in the wet.

From this thread my best option seems to be - Kumho KU31
Then - Bridgestone Re002
And probably next - Michelin PS3.
Or is there something else not yet suggested for someone doing no track work and maybe more cost conscious than most?

I was also wondering what the pro's/con's were between staying with 195's or changing to 205's which many on this thread seem to have?

Thanks.

Based on your premise, my vote is KU31. Also try Achilles ATR Sport ($89 each) with a wear rate of 400 but still grips well, from what I've gathered.

Michelin PS3 are over $150 so kinda falls out of the "value" category.

Neglible. How can anyone quantify, under normal driving conditions and with all things being equal, 10mm of extra width (and probably 5mm of extra contact patch) makes a lick of difference. The only concern would be actual fitment to the wheels. If you have rather unusually narrow wheels, then obviously 195 will fit that little bit better and vice-versa.

Obviously the 205s will grip better.

I've been using the RE002 for the last few months, and have used KU31 in the past. The RE002 seems exceptionally good in the rain, I would like to say it is better than the KU31 but it's hard to compare fresh tyres to my memory of when the old ones were this fresh.

The RE002 is heaps quieter on the highway, which is a nice bonus. I'm using the 195/50R15 on a 15x8 6UL.

Bought KU31 just before the downpours this year (Brisbane) and they are brilliant in the wet and sliced through puddles with ease.

Yeah right, obviously not taking into account that a 205 in one tyre will be the same actual tread width on another 195 tyre, or the difference in quality of the tyres or a myriad of other factors.

Sorry but that is one of the most stupid statements I have read here, or did you forget to use italics for the sarcasm, if so I apologise, if not you are a wanker of the highest order.

Thanks very much for all the help.
I'll be trying to get them done over the next week.
Will post back how things went.
