Best place for rims and tyres?

Postby Poida » Sat Apr 20, 2013 5:52 pm

So I'm getting a new set of 15x7 Enkei RPF1's and a set of 205-50-15 tyres to go with them, but I'd like to save some money if possible if I can.

At the moment, the rims are going to cost me $800 from GoMiata, and the shipping is at 500 (I'm also ordering a new soft top and steering wheel through them). I was then planning to buy a set of Bridgestone RE002's from here, the cheapest I could find was $200 a tyre.

I've checked tirerack, getting a set of RPF1's and a set of RE-11A's would cost me $1764 (including the $532 shipping cost)

I'm just wondering if there is some site or store that I may be able to get the RPF1's cheaper through, and tyres that are of similar quality cheaper too.

Thanks.

For the wheels:

With shipping, it comes to about $975, so you will save on customs duty (not sure if you also factored that into the above quotes - if not, add approx 15%)

For tyres, Tempe/Taleb tyres in Sydney usually offer pretty good deals on tyres compared to some other retailers. I remember at one point they had KU31's for $80 a corner fitted & balanced! It might be worth calling both of them to get a price for RE002's.

Best of luck

Good-Win often have the Enkeis on special. You'd have to negotiate shipping with them.

Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star-Specs are arguably a better all round tyre than the Bridgestones and cheaper: usually Tire Rack for them but they're not listing 205/50 atm.

Thanks for that Revhead, I don't believe I've factored in duty tax for the above items, I'll probably go with the ebay option for the rims.

With the tyres, I probably should've mentioned that I'm located in Vic, unless Tempe tyres ship interstate?

With the eBay option, make sure you use PayPal just for that added protection just in case.

Yes, both Tempe and Taleb ship interstate according to their eBay store, but it is best to call them to get a price on shipping.

You can only use PayPal for that transaction, as that is what the seller requires.

Above listed tyre stores do ship interstate.

Give Gerard at Cheap wheels direct and email on cheap.wheels.direct@gmail.com an email. I found him on the hard tuned forum and my set of 15x8 PF01 +35 offset wheels were delivered to Brisbane for $1100 in a week or so from placing the order. Gerard was a pleasure to deal with, great communication through the whole process and he was very apologetic when my wheels were delyed by customs for a couple of days.

When I was looking for my wheels, I found he was about $50 dearer than what I could find on ebay in the states, but delivery was quicker and I didn't have to worry about extra charges from customs.

A few of the guys up here in Qld have seen my wheels, and I reckon they work on my NA6 brilliantly, the offset is spot on and I only had to knock the inner guard tabs to stop the smallest of rubs with the 205/50/15 R888 tyres I have fitted.

Hope this helps and gives you another option to look at.

For the tyres, Tempe and Taleb are about the same price for shipping but check their ebay stores for what they have, depending on what you are using them for you should be able to pick up something like a KU36 for cheaper than $200 a corner delivered and then you just need someone to fit them, should be from $10-$20 a corner depending on where you go. Or if you are close to Dandenong give Lawrence at Wheeltech a call, http://wheeltechwheels.com.au/, he has plenty of race type rubber as well as high performance rubber and should be able to help you out.

This link shows how the wheels fit on the car but don't show off the rims well, http://www.trackphotos.com.au/p420667157/h58882bac#h58882bac in the background of a few photos in the dodgy day thread you can see my car with the new rims on, page 6, the photos in the third or so last post, the NA with the red wheel nuts.

Sorry that should be Gerald at Cheap Wheels Direct, a combination of late night, a few beers and dyslexia.....
