I am not sure how much progress I will get on the c.f car for a while, as the new house is all go at the moment. And as the builder, it is taking priority of my time and attention.

I did the 2nd round of the vic super sprint last weekend at sandown in the red na8b. I won my class with a 1:28.8. And came 2nd at the first round a couple of months ago by 0.1xx to an Elise at p.i.

Went to p.i today with aroca/mx5 club. Car was all set up to be in modified class- Coilovers, front swaybar, 6ul rims and nitto nt01's, front and rear lip spoilers, and a full exhaust. Standard intake, and soft top.
Managed a best of 1:52.8 - 4 seconds faster than the record. But was disqualified because I have no heater core. Something that was known by the club captain months ago. So for that little oversight I go straight to open class.
Looks like I will have to put one in. Eventually I will have to be able to comply with the rules. And these petty reasons end.
Remember at the last 2 rounds I had been disqualified for wipers, hump on boot, and holes in bonnet in restricted open. At least I know that I am able to beat the records easy, regardless of what class I end up in.
The na8b is the perfect package for modified class. I will get there, all part of the fun.

I get that rules are rules, particularly when a record is on the line, but DAMN they must be some tight rules!

I know more than a couple of street cars that are running sans heater.

My heater in an integral part of the cooling system.

Frustrating as the rules are, you have to take the resistance to being in the class as a compliment. When you do smash the lap record with 100% adherence it will be so much sweeter.

Well said. Are these rules in writing or at the discretion of the club captain?

Rules are, if it doesn't say you can do it then you can't do it. Plus the discretion of club captain. Going by that logic, a car that has had a respray can only compete in open class. As it doesn't say it is allowed.

I bought a turbo NB a couple of weeks ago. Very tidy car, was extremely surpised at its condition.
The idea was to put all the good bits from the red car onto it, and sell the red car. Then I wouldn't have to worry about being put into open, as I would be in open...

Now I have decided to keep the red car, and I am putting a new motor into the NB. The turbo motor is getting rebuilt with new forged internals, etc.

So the NB will be returned to near stock, and some lucky person will get to own it. As it will be for sale shortly. Too clean to turn into a track car.

Once the turbo motor is built I have the option of using it in the c.f car, or throwing it in the red car. I know I payed a lot of money for a motor for he c.f car, but it doesn't look like it will be finished any time soon.

Ther red car is a great car to drive, and is very reliable. So tuff decision.

Maybe when I finally set some records in modified, and get to keep them, I will put the turbo motor in, and see if I can chase open class records. Would be fun to drive with double the h.p. :twisted:

Why is that? Sounds like you need to light a fire beneath your engine builder, rather than write off your expenses.

Hopefully when the house is finished i can get straight into it. Would be good to have the final moulds made for the fastback.

I was looking at this old pic. The red car looks so different - almost standard as it is now. It is amazing that about an hours work completely transforms the look (and performance) of the car.
