Aircon controls.
Hi all, quick Q.....
How hard would it be/is it possible to relocate the aircon/heater controls?
I'm trying to get a picture in my head of a custom tombstone/dash I want to attempt to put together, but it needs the Aircon/heater controls to be moved to the bottom of the tombstone.
If what I'm trying to ask isn't clear, ask away and i'll do my best to answer.
(also, apologies if this is in the wrong spot!)

Suggest you spend a hour or 2 pulling the dash apart take photos and measurements then sit back with a cold beer and think things over
When your finished ask you self is this really a good idea

Re: Aircon controls.
I moved them down about an inch in my NA. Most of the vent controls are physical levers so you can't move it much without significant work. Not sure about NB/NC.

And this is probably the reason google failed If I figure something out, I'll let you know.

Thanks guys! Sounds like a wonderful plan, I may actually do that The five will be off the road for 10 days as of Monday, so it'll be a good time to play. I'm sure my mad mind will figure SOMETHING out.

Re: Aircon controls.
I reckon I read something like this ages ago on Miata.Net or similar when an NB dash was fitted to an NA. An NB HVAC was used though, which I believe has different levers.

Re: Aircon controls.
I haven't done it I'm afraid. I was going to do the heater control swap with a nb unit. This is reasonably easy based on the threads in the USA I found. Needs some wiring spliced to match nb for memory.
Have changed computers at least once since I found the info so don't have links in afraid.
Full nb dash is a real pain to look right as it means changing door cards and stuff as well.

Re: Aircon controls.
Interesting! I may pop over to the big forum and have a gander, I may even finally get a profile on there.
Actually hold that thought, now I've got the wording right.....

Looks fairly straight forward, I prefer the NA HVAC style though, but eh. Beggars can't be choosers!
Seeing as I want the HVAC one 'Din' lower (so its on the bottom of the tombstone, where their CD player is located) I will most likely still have to figure out some way to modify the mechanical levers and such, as has been said before.
I've gotten myself all excited about this mod now, but I see there will be a lot of research before practical planning stages.

The mechanical rotary and slider controls do NOT require ANY modification.

Re: Aircon controls.
Still no mods needed to levers as they only actuate simple cables. Doubt you'd need to mid them either but might be wrong.

Is it normal to want to rip apart something this badly just to see how it works? Or should I go see somebody about that?
Hopefully I get time this week to sus a few things out, then planning shall begin!
