Eunos Mk 1 Accelerator pedelsnapped off it's assembly!

Postby Clutch_101 » Sun Apr 14, 2013 7:21 pm

Hi guys,

As you can see from the pics, the accelerator pedal has cleanly snapped off the assembly/mounting at the firewall. I can't drive it at all. :(
I driving back from the Blue Mountains today and could feel it coming loose. After closer inspection back in car port when kneeling down I inadvertently snapped it off the mounting trying to see what was going on down there. I swore pretty loudly when I did that!

Looks like the whole assembly under there is that corroded that it didn't take any effort at all for it snap off! Freakin Scary.

Should you rule out trying some spot welding to attach it back on?, If so is it possible to replace the whole assembly altogether? I can't find the name of the plate/assembly anywhere.

Thanks in advance!

It's an all too common fault. You can either buy a new unit or else take that one out and give it to a good welder to have it repaired and strengthened. Getting it welded is usually the better and cheaper result. When you put it back in make sure there is at least a tiny bit of slack in the throttle cable at full throttle. Too much tension in the cable weakens it.

Thanks for the reply - I'll try calling around to see if a welder will give it a go. At least it's a "common" fault with this car. :|

Does anyone know what the plate/unit is called?

I think it's called the accelerator pedal bracket that often breaks. :?

Yea, I snapped mine 180 k's from home a few years back. I used a cable tie to keep the throttle body open at about 3000rpm to give me a form of cruise control and just tied my shoelace onto the pedal and gave it a sharp yank when I needed to go any quicker. MX5+ changed mine- as far as I know the steering colum has to be removed if the whole thing is changed. Cost me about $300 from memory.

Yes, that sounds safe!

Nah steering column doesn't have to be removed as such - just the top bracket holding it up, then you can drop and rotate the steering column out of the way and remove the pedal box :)

Discussion of the weld repair here. Fatty had his done in situ at the track. He just loosened it up enough to get it off the floor a bit.
