Re: MAZMAD'S Track car (and Driver) build
Was that recently Mark on their new dyno? I hope mine isn't reading too high...if 82kw is too high, yikes what's the real figure.
But yeah definitely more mid range very happy whatever the real figure is.

Re: MAZMAD'S Track car (and Driver) build
29th March 2013 FOSC practice day.
So the next day I left at a farrows spart to get to Wakefield and get scrut’ed and drive it in anger. And finally get it over 5,000 rpm as I was very cautious driving on the road now due to the racket it now makes. I am racing in Historics and Invited Sports Cars.
OK minor detail overlooked picked up in scrutineering – metal valve caps ???? have never been picked up on this before but makes sense. Quick trip to Auto One that afternoon solved this (they were open on Good Friday….?)
I blame my pit crew…..
First couple of sessions I was trying to get used to the different gear changes – more power = higher speed, so was going into 4th now before turn 4, and ahead of the fish hook. Spence – good call holding 4th up the hill, line ball but I think it is right.
Love the wheel alignment too! With added camber much better bite and less understeer, although feeling like 225s are needed (currently 205/50/15 and pretty sad state they are too….) nice bite on turn in and very very progressive, very predictable tail out on tap and very catchable.
And the brakes! Finally sorted, haven’t had decent stoppers for 4 months now.
Managed a 1.12.02 on the Good Friday practice day.

Re: MAZMAD'S Track car (and Driver) build
ahhh so that explains the faster times!!
mods look good. I wouldnt be too worried about the dyno number, its the lap times that'll back it up and knocking on 11s is a good sign!

Re: MAZMAD'S Track car (and Driver) build
The dyno sheet doesn't have a date but it was on emailed to me on the 15/01/2013. Atmo my car never made heaps of power, 90kw atw and I think it was 3/7 for aspirated NB's on the mania dyno day years ago same day (The winner was an NB8A with a header/exhaust...nothing else). That said it made more torque than any modified NC on the day and I bet I had the same RB headers you do. Power-wise our cars should be really similar here's my old dyno graph from mania for a reference.

Re: MAZMAD'S Track car (and Driver) build
Yeah cool thanks Mark. Will get a print from Daniel and post too. Thats why I went the Racing Beat as they generate more mid range torque.
Chris.....yep can't claim the credit this time. All due to the green machine. Although I have to say a part of that would have to be the alignment set up this time round too.

Re: MAZMAD'S Track car (and Driver) build
Saturday 30th March 2013 Race day Wakefield Park FOSC
Practice/qualifying was first up. Was a bit crazy with a muddle of cars, doing very different times, running around. There were 2 Shelby Mustangs, crazy machines! So much power, but what the heck was their suspension set-up? Their front wheels were at crazy angles under hard cornering, kind of scary but fascinating!
Qualified 6th with a 1.12.44. After the MRA last November where I was totally unprepared for the start, this time I had thought things through.
Got a reasonable start, all going well until the Fishhook on the first lap when I had to go cross country to avoid an MG that spun! I am guessing his tyres weren't warmed up.
Just managed to miss him, and 7 – yes seven ! – cars went by. Anyway, hauled a bunch back in, had an absolute ball and finished 7th. Best was a 1.12.77 go figure......
At lunch time they had a parade lap so I took my crew – Lucy – for a few laps. Planting the seed for her racing future…..
After lunch they had a handicap race. IMO what a waste of time. 4 laps, much mucking around....and I totally cocked it up thinking there was a warm up lap when there wasn't. grrrrrr.....

Re: MAZMAD'S Track car (and Driver) build
Now the green machine has developed a weird rattle in the front end. Have been all over it with a spanner(s), cannot find anything astray. Tightened the intake down by the pod a little but wasn't that.
Took it down to Mike Ward and threw it up on a hoist.....nope, couldn't find anything. At least I know the suspension is all tied in ok..... and the rattle remains. It sounds like there is a shackle hanging off something rattling around. Lost spanner wedged i perhaps? Happened to me after a service on another car once in a reputable workshop, but , nope not this time that I can see.
Have to give it a second all over this weekend.

Re: MAZMAD'S Track car (and Driver) build
So here is a pic (a crappy one, sorry) of the engine bay.
Bit of a story...didn't look so clean a week ago. So turns out PWR make really superbly high quality radiators. But fit crappy caps to them. Go figure....
Thought a hose was leaking, but eventually worked out, the top plate which is riveted on leaks, and made a mess everywhere. $9.99 and a new cap from Auto One, good as new.
This is the culprit. Has a snazzy locking pin ,pressure release lever....but leaks.

Re: MAZMAD'S Track car (and Driver) build
Spent some time...in addition to cleaning the engine bay...fitting some cage padding. My concern was always flammability of the foam, but this FIA approved foam has a flame retardant. Is semi-circular, has sticky tape on the inside, a few cable ties and we are all set.
Biggest issue is further restricting the access in what is already a tight space to climb in and out of. And I am not exactly extremely vertically endowed

Hey Craig,
I noticed you leave it in 3rd for the fish hook. Have you used 2nd?
What diff ratio you got?

Re: MAZMAD'S Track car (and Driver) build
Yeah Chris, gets bogged down for sure, but feels like if I go to second will pull the face off the clutch. I have 4.1 drive. I only grab second through there if I'm coming in behind a slower car.
The real issue there is lifting the inside rear wheel which with the torsen ain't so good, you can probably hear it revving out with all the power going nowhere sometimes in that corner. Time for the welder.....

Re: MAZMAD'S Track car (and Driver) build
What a week- have the MRA on Sunday and in the past week have had #98 in three different workshops trying to find this mysterious rattle noise coming from the front end....somewhere. I have been over every single bolt and nut I can find, all good.
Have had a ...very shiny!... catch can put in, and then went in for some new tyres. Problem is one has a leak! Tyre went into a bath to find the leak...hmmm.. No bubbles, bummer.... So took tyre off wheel, put back on. Added extra pressure to get me home....and it is still going down.
I just make it home. Get the pump out to get it up the driveway, put some air into it. Put the metal valve cap back on that the FOSC scrut'ers made me get at the Easter races (yeah, go figure....) and hear a hissing sound. One of the valve caps is causing the valve to expel air!!!!
Anyway I have taken the tyre off and have it in my daily to take and double check it is the valve.
I will make the MRA on Sunday!!!
