Well Dad has been offered a spot on the technical committee for prod sports which he is thinking about taking them up on to sort out the rules with this influx of ridiculous cars.

And it was tried with MX5 challenge but then everyone rocks up with a suggestion for a new class that means the ridiculous cars they rock up with can win a trophy to the point where some meetings have more classes than cars.

For the record building a turbo car that has a dead flat powerband for the rpm band you race in is easy and cheap.

Limiting boost and using fuel and timing and possibly restrictor plates having a flat powerband is super easy, and cheap.

once again... its all been done before, motor racing and spending follow the classic where there is a will there is a way. People will always throw money to go faster. It gets to the point where if you are not content with your level of competitiveness and you don't want to spend any more money you have to question if you are racing in the right category or if motorsport is for you.... the vast majority of club racers are fairly realistic about it and they enjoy their motorsport by just having a go... unfortunately there is another group who are under the impression that they are the fastest driver out there and that they would beat Mark Webber given the same opportunities... these people are really what ruins club racing, because they are either spending more money than anyone else to try and make up for their lack of skill or they are complaining about everyone else spending too much money for them to compete when in actual fact much of their problem is that they are 2 or 3 seconds of the pace not their cars....

Unfortunately these factors will always be present because you cant create rules that regulate personality, financial means or delusions of grandeur.

ƒü¢k if I know whats happening, but I do know that the 1st meeting of the year ended up with 9 cars,a Mosler WTF??, R35, Lotus and Lotus BBQ special, corvette, and 4 yes that's right 4 mx5s, and thats out of approx 20 to 30 mx5's in Qld.

Maybe someone commenting at the last meeting that if you can't qualify at the times that the top 50% are, your not trying hard enough and "shouldn't even be there",
so most aren't.

Dann, if turbo mx5 and all the other ideas you keep sprouting about is the way to go, then start up a catagory to race them in!!!
Oh! hang on, someone tried to do that, wonder what happened there!!! :roll: :roll:

I'll probably go back and race Scooter, but I'm not gunna spend stupid amounts ( to me ) of money to do so.
And if Prodsports don't want us, then we'll go elsewhere.

Great post, I'm one of the blokes, quite happy just running around at the back with his mates, quite realistic about his talent.
I tried another class, that was open to grass routes, next minute there's a 900 hp holden running on meth and 4 nascar trucks :roll:

How's this for a simple everyman race category?

Set a maximum cost for a car.
Do whatever you like within that budget. Only mandatory items are safety related.
Race!
If any car is deemed to be "too fast", any driver can buy it for the established maximum cost.

Not new idea - Swedish rally drivers were doing it on an episode of Top Gear. Has it been done here before?

Its not about politics or being corrupt, its actually people like you Dann who think and claim they can build a lightning quick car to win everything then 1 of 2 things happens.

1. The car is lightning quick but is completely illegal and has not been built to any set of rules but they want to bring it and run it anyway, and if they aren't allowed it's obviously because of corruption and politics.

2. You build the car and it's slow... so now you want your own class to run in so you can win a trophy like 1st place NA6 with a NitroDann manifold and exhaust system.

I don't understand why its so unfair on the part of the admins for so many series for having a set of rules from the outset but its more than reasonable for people to just build something they think they should be allowed to run.

The MX5 challenge was a classic example where it was made clear that at the beginning of the series you could bring whatever and race it but to keep it under control it had a sunset on this and it would within a timeframe be run under cams 2F and 2B rules but then people started building new cars that had quads and engines oversized beyond what is allowed within 2F regs and said fine we will just be 2B... but oh wait the SPs are 2B and we cant compete with them so lets make a 2B non-turbo class... then there were turbo NA models which came and ran as "2A" cars, but others wanted to avoid this because the 2A regs are extremely open and could result in people spending a fortune on anything and everything... then you had the guys that wanted to come and run but couldn't afford to build a car with much more than an exhaust and intake and some coil overs... so then they wanted to create the "clubman class"... and everyone jumped up and down about having built a car they wont be able to race if the rules change and its not fair and its too expensive to be fast enough in 2B or 2F... but the intention of the rules at that point was to bring the rules in line with what the 'MX5 Nationals" were being run under... which were always run as 2B and 2F rules but this apparently wasn't fair to those if you didn't build your car to the rules???

The next thing you need to consider is HP is only a small part of making a circuit racing car fast which a lot of people fail to consider... you restrict it to power to weight then the more clever guys will start getting clever with ballast in the car and shocks and springs, the list goes on.

None of that changes the fact that the rules allow the SP which is the best OEM mx5 you can run and that drives the prices up.

Chris Gough was right when he said to me you cannot allow unregulated turbo cars.

What I dont understand is why a USA style points based system hasnt been implemented.
