How should you clean anodising

Hey guys,

I have a set of Star Sharks that I'm anal about getting clean. The centres are anodised, and I've been searching ways to clean it up, i've found/thought of some solutions but I'm not really sure of the best way; so just looking for some guidance.

The spokes are pitted/stained with brake dust? Not really sure how to explain it, so I'll let photos do that.

Yes, the rims have been cleaned with a wheel brush and wheel cleaner.


I've found Autosol anodised aluminium polish, but not sure if that will work?

Also maybe using nylon brushes?

I've used those little square white magic eraser kitchen cleaning pads to get brake dust off plastic wheel caps and anodised wheel bits. Works really well. Buy them Coles, Woolies, etc.

Don't ever use steel wool on alloy that gets wet or exposed. Fibres break off the wool, get embedded in the alloy and then rust, staining the alloy.

Albright: Acidic aluminium brightener & cleaner best to do a sample section first you can buy Albright from places that sell boat stuff like Bias Boating in NSW

I've used this method and it works, you can buy the stuff from Supercheap as well.

Couldn't find Albright, but I bought Starbrite Aluminium cleaner. This cleaner is amazing.

Pre wash stain remover about $3.50 at woolies and a brush. Try it!

A little OT as this wheel is neither anodised nor is it aluminium.

I didn't even target the insides of the lettering, just rubbed over.
I'm sure most of us know Autosol:







Only used light force rubbing with a rag, so not much effort, just takes time.

Still have a little bit left to get it really clean, but just wanted to share.

That wheel is painted (like NA wheels).
