the 16's will look nicer assuming they have a sensible offset, in my opinion, however the car will be better to drive with the 15's. and faster.

NAs pull off 15s rather well. with the better/cheaper tyre options available to 15s that'd be my pick.
if it was a NB then it'd look better on 16s.

Okay. I've always just assumed that most na's just use 16x8 or 9's. Looks like i will be purchasing a set of 15's soon . Thanks guys!

I have had 15 x 8 0 offset and 16 x 8 plus 15 offset fitted with similar quality tyres. The 15 x 8 imho are a more comfortable ride, the 16 x 8 filed the gaurds better. I wouldnt bother with anything < 8" .

I'm not against 16" wheels but they are very hard to pull off on an NA mx5. Na's seem to look pretty decent with 13" 14" and 15" wheels. Like I said, 16" can be good but it's reaching the limits of size versus aesthetic so you need to really put lots of work in to it. By work I mean, tyre size, offset, wheel gap/height, style of wheel... colour etc... Some wheels will naturally look a size bigger than their diameter thanks to spoke length and the size of the faces compared to the amount of steps on the lip and so on.
This thing seems to pull it off 16" CCW's pretty well:

No need to go 16s. 15s do an excellent job and they are cheaper with alot more tyre options available.
15x7 4x100 +25/+35
205/50R15 or 195/50R15.

He's had his guards rolled and the tyres are stretched - I'm betting he still rubs the guards at full lock.
15"rims are the largest you should run on an NA, tyres are cheaper, there's more options and they're more comfortable.
16"rims look great on an NB but most prefer 15" rims for the rasons mentioned above. 15"rims on an NB require the car to be lowered to avoid the 4WD gap betwen the tyre and guard (looks crap).

So which point did you think I made that the majority would disagree with?
