The build of the Garry Stewart engine is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
As we know a lot of the MX5s don't go to Bathurst because there is a chance they might not qualify...and having a Ginetta and a Renault Spider in class B is also crazy.

Thanks BoyRacer I'm aware that the Gary Stewart engines can be expensive (depending on your configuration). However in this build http://www.timeattackforums.com/forums/show-shine/2332-fujiracing-miata-naturally-aspirated-184-whp-pump-gas.html they guess that they can get to 200 but on larger valves and race gas. 2F cars cannot run ITBs, the cylinder block may be bored to a maximum 1.5mm oversize and I assume that they can do larger valves as well. I guess they will also get more HP by increasing the compression as well. However 2B can run ITB's and have larger bores etc.
I'm just curious as to the exact output of a top of the line Gary Stewart engine (race motor) and his basic versions. You hear HP figures thrown around but confirmation would be nice.

our car ran great yesterday.
Its funny how people complain about rules and come race day do what they want anyway.
Classes are power limited, so why do one or two cars in class blast past in a straight line??. Also no windscreen cars one na running a turbo, that down the straights sounds more like the sr20 sylvia??.
Cars in b class running splitters?? we have one took it off as per rules. At bathurst this would be 2 seconds off our time. And if we turned the boost up wed beat the s15 sylvia too. Think its time some cars got tested on a dyno!!. Far too many cheaters for my liking yesterday.
Ric shaw 2B??? Faster than a lambo!!!! in the straight. Front splitter!!, and he claims to weigh 1600kg so woud be limited to 250kw Approx. 250 kw to beat a porshe on the straights mmmmmmmmmmm.
Besides this alot follow the rules and was really good to watch the racing

Simple, go and ask the man!!!!
And take ya check book with ya.
BP engines have seen a bloody big jump in hp figures in the last 2 to 3 years, the front running cars are spending big money to extract every hp available and that takes time and lots of dollars, the figures I've heard are 120hrs to build a premium engine. Thats a lot of time getting everything spot on, lots of head and manifold work, lots of assemble measure, strip, machine, clean reassemble, remeasure, strip etc etc etc. Lots and lots of dyno time as well by either Gary or Chris R.
That cost lots of money and the big boys are willing to pay it. The advantage for us plebbs is that after the work has proven itself, all his engines will get some of this added to your engine rebuild.
A lot of people bag GS but I've found him to be quite helpful at the track and at the workshop. You get what you pay for.I even know of workshops who ring him to find out how to make big HP and then winge that he's not very helpful
Just as a note on HP engines, Scooter is making more than Ash Millers 2010 engine but I'm still way off the latest GS motors.

All that money for something that can be achieved on a stock 1.6 with 3k worth of turbo gear, the rules must be horrible. ts a shame.

Unfortunately Mazda never released an NA6 with 3k worth of turbo gear as a production model so therefore it is no eligible to run in what is supposed to be a production based format.
Unfortunately the rules are crap atm... the tech committee is intending to reign it in this year.... a good example of the hypocrisy in the rules relates to SP based MX5s and FD3S RX-7s... to run an MX5 with a turbo it has to be based on an SP or SE the SP format must run a gt2560 and you are restricted to running a mazda stamped factory SP log manifold. If you run an RX7 you can put a single turbo on it??? they never came from Mazda without twins! Which also means there manifold is free.
The problem with club racing in Australia is that often competitors just lob at meetings with cars built without even looking at the rules.
The power to weight thing isnt working with prod sports either because its too hard to police atm... the truth is though most of the biggest whingers are cheating too... the classic case in 2B where competitors get really ticked of because they have 20kw more than legal and get destroyed in a straight line by the Ginettas or Stinsons s15

Why cant it just be a case of everyone agrees on a non fudgeable dyno brand like a mainline and whingers pay for a dyno run on a competitors car.

The Dyno at Deckspeed is a dynapak hub dyno, and virtually brand new so prod sports were discussing with us at phillip island last year about possibly bringing it to one of the meetings on a flatbed... stops people from fudging the power figures... some of the competitors weren't happy with this suggestion funnily enough. Its definitely much more fair to use the exact same dyno, even just using the same brand will give you massive fluctuations

No, not easy.
This isn't a state run club, its a national (supposedly) CAMS category. Even thinking you could get all the competitors within cooey of somewhere,
at a time to suit all would be impossible. Cripey you can't even get them to turn up at race meeting on time so what chance being dynoed.
The other issue who is going to certify and seal all the motors boxes diffs etc??
Bloody big COW and really not much chance of being settled until the club folds or is so short of members will there be a concensus to do it right this time.
In the mean time, we will continue running GT cars and wonder where all the competitors have gone.(excel racing, pulsar racing even falcon/dunnydore cabs )

Just take the car off the track and put it on a trailer don't let people touch it.
Only the guy who Bitches and the guy who's being accused go to the deckspeed dyno on the trailer, both cars are tested against registered power on the spot.

I think there may be a loop hole in it. If you check I'm sure that SBR build 750 turbo production cars for Mazda in the uk. If you pushed it enough you may get it through. Wouldn't be much different than the S/C lotus. There is always a can opener around in motor sport if you look hard enough.

Sounds very convoluted to me.
Like racing apples and oranges.
Only way I'd get into motorsport (if I could afford it) would be a control category. Even then there are no guarantees.
I quickly lost interest in karting when I saw how much of an effect special motors could create.
