Is it possible to have a 2011 MX5 (NC 3.5) remapped with the new 2013 MX5 map? I understand that the new 2013 MX5 map addresses throttle and braking issues.
If it is possible to upgrade the map, would this be part of a regular dealer service?
Anybody with experience of this?
Allan.

Re: New NC map
Easily done but it's doubtful the Mazda dealer will do it.
In 2003 my NB8C along all the other NBs of that period suffered clutch shudder. The easy fix was to install the SE clutch. But no, Mr Mazda wouldn't do it. Two clutches later under warranty the problem was fixed.
If Mazda won't do it, see Chris (Targa Racing) or Daniel (Deckspeed) and get them to do the tune.

If you ask a dealer, they'll probably do it along with any M-MDS update they need to do. IF not, just buy one of those plug and play accellerator thingos that do the same job off ebay or any performance shop.

No DON'T do this.
First up, do you really need this upgrade and if so, why? I doubt that you will notice any difference in normal day to day driving.
So if the dealer won’t do it under the normal warranty service and the reason you want the change is for track days, then do as I suggested in my first post. You can get these changes made with the added bonus of more power with the custom tune. Sure it will cost you extra over the Dealer change, but if you think it’s going to make that much difference and you really want it, then this is your only option.
Re: New NC map
Hi Charlie ...
Its not for track days ... just purely spirited driving (when I can). Its just that Mazda made great claims for the "improved throttle responsiveness and improved braking performance through a new map":-
http://www.caradvice.com.au/188296/2013 ... -unveiled/
In a cynical way, I translate that to mean that there were problems with the throttle and braking on the existing model.
What I was trying to determine was if any forum member had remapped their car with this new map ... and what was the verdict? ... or even if it was possible to remap a 2011 model with the new 2013 map.
Regards
Allan.
PS ... thanks for your advice ... those plug and play devices look the business ... but maybe overkill for my type of driving. My track days are confined to riding a Triumph Daytona.

Re: New NC map
Allan, there was nothing "wrong" with the throttle mapping and brake booster on the NC2. All we're talking about here is a subtle change in their character - as indicated by the quote below. I've not dríven an NC3 but we now have a couple of them in the MX-5 Club of NSW. I'll see if I can arrange an opportunity to do a back-to-back test against my NC2, and report my experiences.

Mazda claim "adjustment to the throttle management programme in manual models makes the MX-5 more responsive when accelerating out of corners". The above review suggests the complete opposite because the driver has to use more throttle to achieve the same result.

The Motor Report wrote:The major difference for the 2013 NC3 model is a recalibrated throttle map and revised braking system.
While 50 percent of pedal travel called-up more than 80 percent of power in the outgoing NC2, the same pedal deflection produces much closer to 50 percent power in the NC3.
That makes it feel slightly less zippy than before, but keen drivers will appreciate the more linear throttle response, especially when finely balanced on the throttle when cornering.
