The noise has gone since I replaced the viscous diff with a torsen - which has the anti vibration thingy. I have some rear wheel bearing noise but that's all. My book is the earlier version. I measured from the PPF not the bolt heads which would have made it even less. I loosened off the gearbox/PPF mounting bolts and the PPF bracket bolt before trying to jack it up. No movement at all, so tightened them up as they were. I'm not an engineer but still dont understand how those bolts can have any effect the required gap. They tighten up on the flat suface of the gearbox so there is literally no adjustment.

Ok guys, sorry about getting back to this sooo late. It was the clutch/flywheel, I now have the standard clutch and flywheel back in :( but since not noises what so ever.

Now to find out why it was the clutch/flywheel. One thing I can think of is if it's a balancing issue. Does anyone know someone decent to get a clutch flywheel balanced in the SE of Melbourne?

I am going to get in contact with the supplier to see what he will say.

Anything else people could advise? I do still want to put it back in the car, the difference when going back to standard is just so depressing.

I will keep posting, slowly, on updates to this.

There is no problem with the 949 racing TWIN plate clutch

mine is BALANCED to the engine and still makes the same noises

THE PROBLEM is there are no dampener springs on the clutch plate

These remove the harmonics transmitted to the gear set in the Gearbox

With the 949 Racing Flywheel and clutch DOES IT MAKE NOISE IN 4TH GEAR ???

IF YES IT IS THE FLYWHEEL CLUTCH SETUP

if no ( BUT IN EVERY OTHER GEAR ON OVER RUN ) then IT IS THE FLYWHEEL CLUTCH SETUP

These clutches are great BUT THESES ARE THE SIDE AFFECTS

Ok new update. After driving the car now for 2 weeks with the stock slipping clutch back in, I can say that it was not the clutch. The clutch that was in there only amplified the sound. you can still just hear it, only slightly and you have to be listening for it. So it might actually be the gearbox :(
