Random Motorsport questions

Postby mazmad » Mon Mar 25, 2013 5:28 pm

I have a few random questions which don't warrant a thread, thanks for the help:

Heat cycling new tyres (semis): best approach is one session building up sped over 1/4 hour session, taking care not to spin/lock tyres - and then don't touch them for a day....?

Perspex windows - any recommended suppliers?

Ducting for cabin venting (yep, I am still sweating buckets.....maybe losing weight might be the solution.... ) - any kits recommended? That will be superior to a trip to Tradelink?

Ducting for brake cooling - recommended kits? Is it even necessary on an mx5?

Thanks for all input!

Brake ducts - Trackspeed have a set of ducts. I had MX5 Plus make up ducts from my GV lip to connect to the trackspeed ducts.

Cabin air - the worst mod I have done to date is the roof vent as on the highway it makes a lot of noise. However on the track it is the best mod for getting air to the driver. Solution is when on the highway I block the vent and on the track have it unblocked.

Quarter window vent - purchased through recent GB, when coupled with the roof vent (and wearing a helmet to mask the noise) the is heaps of driver cooling.

Recent group buy on the project G quarter window vents. I was cooking in the cabin even on the short runs that the club days have but these vents draw in a lot of air. You're welcome to have a look at mine if it's something of interest.

Got it Spence, they look like the deal. No water issues?

Close them up, rotate them so they're facing down, and its as good as watertight. I've literally only had a drop or two come in and that's when I washed the car and hit them full bore with the hose.

They're noisy at 110, but to me the cooling is worth it on the warmer days.

As said above, you're welcome to have a look at/test with mine (in Artarmon) before you purchase.

Haven't had the 1/4 window vents leak either, however the roof vent was another issue. I have almost solved the water leak issue and it now only drips a bit in very heavy downpours and I think it is more an issue of the water not draining away fast enough.
