A/C without tuning for it?

Hi,

I have been thinking about this for some time now and just need someone else to confirm this with me. I am about to install a Haltech 500 and I understand it does not have the function to control A/C, but would i be able to run A/C without having any control over it. i.e switching the A/c on whilst cruising and turning it off when i'm idling. I know i cant have a/c on idle without bumping my idle up to suit the additional engine load, that i can live without. So the question is will A/C work whilst cruising with the sprint 500 without any tuning involved?

The main purpose of the a/c for me is to demist the windows that's it! Yes, I could remove a/c and forget about it completely but i would like to base my decision base upon whether my a/c will work or wont work in this situation and go from there.
And looking into the wiring diagram there is a connection to the stock ecu and i'm assuming this is just a signal to ecu so it can kick up idle.

This is a NA6.

The sprint 500 is a pretty limited ecu for the money. Just saying.

I lost AC idle quality on my old car when I installed IRTB's and I thought I could live with it and do like you said, turn the AC off when idling, but it got tiring real fast.
Keep in mind:
- my car was only dríven once, perhaps twice, a week
- I didn't use the AC all that much in the first place (only on the hottest of days with the sun blaring down)
- I'm very tolerant in terms of lack of creature comforts
- and I seldom drive more than 45minutes at a time

Along with turning the AC off, whenever I didn't, to keep the revs up I used to keep the edge of my right foot pressed on the accelerator when stopped. This was ok for a month or so but it became really annoying that I was praying winter would come the next week.

Also, turning the AC on and off constantly puts a considerable amount of strain, read:wear & tear, on the associated components.

I would suggest, before buying the 500, experiment and do a whole week's of driving doing what you think will work, turning the AC on and off all the time and then see if you can actually live with that for a long time.

As sailaholic alluded to, in this day and age and in such a competitive market, to offer an entry level ECU (at a not-so-entry-level price) without AC control is lacklustre.

And to add what you have you mention I don't drive my car as a daily, i take public transport to work so the only time i have to drive my car on the weekend. As for the A/C usage its main purpose is to demist the window thats it, nothing more. But reading through what you wrote, it sounds as if you would A/C to function like OEM right? I guess i wont be concerned about this because i honest havent used my a/c since i purchased the mx and the only time it was turned on was when one friend asked if we could use it. Mind you i dont understand why a/c is needed in a roadster...

Winding down 4 windows in a sedan on a freeway causes more friction/power use than your A/C
