Hey guys looking for a replacement engine for my SE atm.. Was wondering if a standard engine from a early NB (NB8a) will bolt straight up? Was more concerned about the oil and water ports for the turbo and if they will be present.
Also will the engine run fine on the oem SE ECU even with the difference in static compression and cams?
What else will need to be looked at?
Cheers

Water pump outlet is different.
The standard block may or may not have the oil gallery ready for the pipework, just depends on luck.
I dont think it will run on the SE ECU unless the turbo etc is all fitted.

No ports on those, you will need an early NA8 block.

Not always the case, I have seen 3 NB8A motors with the ports present and blocked with threaded caps.
I have also seen a couple without them, so it seems to be luck of the draw.

kinda. the water one is easy to do. only a few cm in. the oil one has to go all the way back to the main oil gallery. get it wrong and you kill piston chamber wall no.4.
find the correct block from a 90-95 astina or 94-97 mx5, or drill the water outlet and run a oil feed from a sandwich oil block adaptor thingo.

Re: Fitting standard NB engine (BP4W) into SE
Thanks for the feedback guys.
I'm looking to keep as much of the SE bits as possible.
I ended up overheating the engine as the the radiator failed on me.
Was looking at a replacement engine so I can get get her back on the road (she is my daily now).
What's peoples opinions on the most cost effective measure for this?

From the description you provided me, I suspect you have blown the head gasket and should not have done too much other damage. As the motor is fairly low km, and it has not run to extreme overheating (ie siezed solid etc), I suspect youwould get away with headgasket only.
It would be worth considering this option.
Just my 2.5 cents worth....

Damn that sucks. Hope you can sort it out at a reasonable price.
What Geofiz said sounds like a possibility. Not the first time I've heard of this happening.
