The plastic bit on mine is not bad looking, generally comes up ok with a coat of Aerospace 303 protectant.

As for the suspension, that's why I havent just run out and bought anything yet :D
I like the idea of coilovers for the adjustability, but I don't have $2k+ to spend on nice ones, and don't want to buy junk.
I like the comfort and quality of Koni yellows, but then I wouldn't get (much) height adjustability, and I would want to buy new bumpstops and top mounts which pushes the budget up quite a bit.

If you want adjustability why not consider Ground Control sleeves with Eibach springs with the Konis. A highly regarded combination. Add FCM bumpstops and possibly even FCM topmounts and makes a really good quality setup for a reasonable cost.

So the oil leak(s) are still there :evil:
I've got a spare genuine valve cover seal to go on, but I'm not convinced that it's a big contributor to the leak(s).

I gave the engine a good degrease and wash down today, so I can keep an eye on which parts get oily again. There is a lot of oil in a few places so it's hard to tell what is a current leak and what has been there for a while :)

Also found a coolant leak, so I've got to order some new hoses. May end up ordering an entire kit and keep the rest of the hoses nearby, as no doubt they will all need doing soon.

In more exciting news, I've got some Yellowspeed coilovers on the way, bought from Dweezle on here. Should be like night and day compared to the worn OEM shocks and King Springs that are in there currently :D

I also ordered a nice antenna to replace the daggy rubber one on the car at the moment, which flaps around constantly in the breeze.
Ended up going with this one http://www.metraonline.com/images/produ ... 4-UA46.jpg which should look a lot more modern.

So the front of the engine has some fresh oil dripping down it near the bottom. Looks like it's the frigging crank seal which was replaced not long ago by the previous owner :evil:

I'm rapidly starting to remember why I stopped playing with old cars again.....

Can't be arsed fixing it, so I'm just going to live with it for now.

Installed the coilovers a couple of days ago. Pretty easy to do, took me around 2 hours or less all up.

Massive difference in ride comfort and handling now, the car actually has some damping! Doesn't feel like it's riding on the bumpstops anymore. Turn in feels quicker and car feels a bit more planted.

Just a few small updates recently.

Bought a cheap set of gearstick and handbrake boots from ebay, not bad for around $20 posted. Fit is not perfect, but looks better than the worn out original one.

Also did a quick and nasty rattle-can respray of the rear trim piece. Far from perfect, but looks much better than the faded pink it was beforehand:

And in non-MX5 car news, one of my other cars (Peugeot 206) decided to start spraying fuel under high pressure all underneath the rear seat. Explains the strong fuel smell my Fiance was complaining about. Pulled up the seat, opened the inspection panel, and found the plastic barb for the high pressure fuel line had almost completely cracked through. Upon removing the line, the barb broke right off. :shock:

Very common according to the interweb. Damn Peugeot is just constantly costing me money, only just paid $1700 a few weeks ago to fix the auto tranny :(. If only it would keep working for long enough for me to sell it.

So after obsessing over the ride height a bit too much, and adjusting it several times, I think I'm finally happy with how it sits :)

It's at a legal height, it's practical, and it doesn't have that boy racer, slammed, lame 'hellaflush/stance kid' look :D

The wheels need a re-paint soon, trying to decide whether or not to stay with the gold, or go silver?

New wheel fitted. I love it. Gained some legroom and the difference in steering feel it makes is great. I always felt the stock wheel gave the steering too much of a 'loose' feeling, due to its size. This wheel makes it perfect, hardens up the effort just enough.

I'm enjoying just buying little bits and pieces for it here and there, I'm not allowed to spend much money at the moment due to an upcoming wedding, so little parts go unnoticed :lol:

Just nursed the car home 15-20 mins with a non-operational clutch.
Was coming down a main road, went to downshift and my foot went to the floor. Uh-Oh.
Pulled over and pumped the clutch, nothing. Looked under the car and there was hydraulic fluid bleeding everywhere. F*ck.

Managed to baby it home by starting it in first with the starter motor, then slamming it into the other gears haha.

I suspected the slave cylinder, but looking under the bonnet, there was fluid sprayed around near the top of the motor. Couldn't see an obvious leak, so I set up my digital camera on movie mode and pumped the pedal a few times :lol: . The clutch flex line has a split in it.

Tried to order a nice looking braided one from MPS Garage, only $25. But no stock, and 2-4 weeks to get in. So I gave in and ordered a stock one from Mazda for $40.

Better the line than the master cylinder as a replacement or rebuild is a more expensive and a more time consuming job!

So you got to experience driving a MX5 with a dog box for 20 mins lol you did well getting it home!
