Machine shop / Workshop in Perth

Postby wydra » Tue Feb 19, 2013 3:58 pm

Hey guys, sorry if this has already been covered. I did a quick forum search and didnt have anything come up from any recent times.
I have a 2-part question:

1. Can anyone recommend a machine shop where I can get a flywheel machined ready for the new clutch?

2. Can anyone recommend a workshop that would be able to perform a clutch swap (and replace the rear main seal) with all parts supplied by me? I was going to do this myself but thought if it wasnt going to cost too much I might get someone to do it and save me rolling around the ground at the front of my house. If it is going to cost heaps I will have to suck it up and roll up the sleeves but it is worth asking.

Thanks,
Dale

Definitely talk to geofiz, all round good bloke and has the ideal tool for getting the job done!

Having just done the flywheel and clutch on my car I would NOT be looking to do it on the ground on axle stands.

If anyone else is looking for flywheel machining in Perth, I ended up using AAA Brake & Mechanical Repairs in Kelmscott.
Looks like they did a pretty good job, cost me $70 and they had it done in about 45 minutes.

Massive thanks to Russ for his help and use of his workshop/hoist.

Agreed fcruz3r, massive workshop envy!

It ended up taking about 5 hours start to finish but I also swapped out the rear main seal and resealed its carrier as it was done in the past with very cheap/crap silicone.
Had some surprises along the way, biggest one being the previous workshop used Automatic Transmission flywheel bolts which only managed a few wraps of thread in the crank...
