Is my OBDII missing?

Postby Az » Mon Feb 11, 2013 9:33 pm

Total Idiot! :

Bought myself a nice code reader, opened car, looked at fuse box, port is missing...am I looking in the wrong place? Could this have been removed? On the right of the attached picture you'll see the shape of it, but it's just empty...

Have I wasted my money??

Thanks in advance..

What was your manufacture date? OBDII came in from September 2002 build date.

The port is on the passenger side of the engine bay, against the edge about midway along.

Are you referring to the "Diagnostic" port? If so, this is a proprietary port used by Mazda and not an ODBCII port. I've been told no 2002 NB's came with ODBCII port from factory. But that was just someone's comment and I can't confirm this. I have an April 2002 NB, and it does not come with one.

Someone from this forum did fit one on his non OBDCII MX5 with some extensive modifications and posted it in this forum. If you want to go that route, just do a search. Though if I can remember the post, there was a lot of soldering and wiring involved.

I stand corrected, never actually been looking for it before. Will check mine on the weekend, which should have it.

The ODBII connector did appear in mid 2002 or thereabouts. I have a 2001 model that doesn't have it. Rodd Clarke had a mid 2002 model that did have it.

Around the same time a change was made such that the numberplate lights would come on when you opened the boot, and a low fuel light also appeared.

Mine has the number plate lights coming on and doubling as boot light when the boot is open but no low fuel warning light.
