JENOLAN CAVES TOUR & RUN – Sunday 24 Feb
JENOLAN CAVES TOUR & RUN EVENT – Sunday 24 February 2013
Meet 1: McDonalds Eastern Creek F4 Westbound
Time 1: 8.00am for 8.30am start
Meet 2: Glenbrook Tourist Information Centre on GWH
Time 2: 8.15 for 8.45 start
Meet 3: Blackheath Villae Car Park, Govetts Leap Road
Time 3: 9.45 for 10.00am start
Details: A laid back Club Cruiser Run with three meeting points starting from Maccas Eastern Creek heading west on the Great Western Highway over the Blue Mountains meeting up with members from the newly formed RPM Chapter along the GWH on our way from Glenbrook to Blackheath for a convenience stop. From Blackheath we will head down Victoria Pass to drive down Jenolan Caves Road (a Great MX5 Road ) all the way to the Caves House where you have the option of joining an escorted Caves Tour or continuing up through Edith to Oberon (another great MX-5 Road ) then on to the O’Connell Hotel for lunch. After lunch the route home starts with run through Tarana and the recently resealed road to Lithgow (yet another Great MX-5 Road ) then back over the mountains on the route of your choice.

The Jenolan Caves road from the gate down to the Caves then up the other side towards Edith is 40km/h and with good reason. It is narrow, treacherous and there is a very steep drop off the side. Some of the roadside posts don't look all that secure. The wild weather had caused the road to be strewn with debris, there was water everywhere, including some small waterfalls as we made our way into the valley.
A lot of cars didn't even get to the speed limit. The scenery was spectacular though.
We drove through the caves entrance and encountered a couple of tourist groups, who just gawked as 28 convertibles (including an MG) drove past....
